Australian based midfielder Charles M’Mombwa scored a second half winner to give Tanzania a 1-0 away victory over Niger in their first qualifier for the FIFA 2026 World Cup on Saturday.
Congolese born M’Mombwa scored in 56th minute off a Samatha Mbwana assist at Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.
Tanzania will head to Brazaville for Tuesday’s tie against Congo who will be looking for their first win following their 4-2 defeat to Zambia on Friday.
Niger will welcome the test of Zambia on Tuesday at the same venue in Marrakech.
Group E favourites, Morocco will join the qualifiers in June next year following the withdraw of Eritrea.
