Opposition Watch: Morocco U17 name squad for Copper Princessess clash

Morocco women’s under-17 national team coach Younes Rabi has named a formidable 30-member squad ahead of the 2024 FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup fourth round two-legged qualifiers against Zambia.

Only seven of the 30 players on the list are locally based with the other 23 mostly based in France, Spain and the Netherlands.

Morocco have had a flawless qualifying campaign thus far, whitewashing Niger 22-0 on aggregate in the second round. They went on to baptise fellow north africans Algeria via an aggregate scoreline of 8-0 in the third round.

This means that they are yet to concede a goal and have scored 30 goals in four qualifying matches.

However , they face a tricky Zambia that thumped Tanzania 5-0 at home before losing 1-0 away in the second round. In the third round, Zambia beat another east african nation Uganda 2-0 at home and again lost 1-0 away to set up a crunchy last round showdown against Morocco.

The first leg will be played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday, June 8, at 15:00hrs CAT. Morocco host Zambia in the second leg at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane, on June 15. Kickoff will be at 22:00hrs CAT.

Winner over two legs will qualify for the World Cup to be played in Dominican Republic.
