Nyirenda: Mweene, Sunzu still part of Chipolopolo

Chipolopolo Boys coach Wedson Nyirenda has said veterans Stopilla Sunzu and Kennedy Mweene have not been dropped and are still part of the team.

There has been some fears that the two African Cup of Nations winners had been phased out after they were omitted from the squad which is involved in the Four Nations Tourney in Ndola.

When asked whether goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata has finally replaced Mweene, Nyirenda clarified the situation.

“Kennedy Mweene is our captain. I called both Mweene and Stopilla Sunzu before I named the team.

“I explained to them that I just wanted to have a look at other players and see what they can do at a tournament,” Nyirenda said.

“We want to increase depth in the side. But both players are still part of our plans,” adds Wada Wada

In the absence of Sunzu, Buildcon’s Isaac Shamujompa has stepped in to partner Ziyo Tembo in central defence.

Zambia came from behind twice to force a 2-2 draw against Zimbabwe before edging out her neighbours 5-4 on post match penalties.

Zambia has now set up a mouth watering clash against South Africa in Saturday’s final.

  1. That is the way to go look for and develop depth in the team. In as much as pride is at stake its not winning that will matter.
It is from such tournaments that you expose those who still have raw nerves like Solomon Sakala and Shamujompa with their recent own goals.

    Go for it Zambia.

I have just been watching Young Nkana beat Young Pirates 3-0 at the Future Champions Gauteng. Eish!! Zambia brims with serious talent and boy those young Nkana players are a marvel to watch.

Nachilaumfwa nakaso being a Warriors Fan. Its just that this was a national cause.

  2. Well, u better hv in mind Kangwa, Lubambo, Chirwa at yanga, Chongo at mazembe!! Otherwise I don’t see Wada lasting in this job for sure. No building here for the sake of if. You cost us that game in Nigeria to satisfy your ego
    Self conceited bugger!

  3. I would have loved to have all teams play each other in this tournament. We have missed out on playing Angola when they are in the country We should have had games on Friday such that Zambia could have played Angola and South Africa could have played Zimbabwe. The finals could have then been played on Sunday. We could therefore have had a compressed tournament with games on Wed, Fri and Sun with full benefits in terms of game time for all teams – our own version of the EPL December fixtures. Lets hold this tournament every year with all invitees being ranked above us as the criteria.

  4. you have Evans Kangwa and Mbola out in europe then you ignore them zambia does not hav the luxury of many players in europe how do you ignore these two guys in preference of Rodrick kabwe in defence and Brian Mwila i dont understand wadaa

  5. Kuwayawayafye ba Wada. We don’t need Isaac Samujompa. George Chilufya & Adrian Chama are good than that boy and they partner very well with Ziyo Tembo
