Zambian coach Wedson ‘Wada-Wada’ Nyirenda has been named the August Coach of the Month in Malawi’s 2026 FDH Bank Premiership after guiding FCB Nyasa Big Bullets through an impressive unbeaten run.
The former Chipolopolo coach secured his second monthly accolade since taking charge of the Malawian giants in June, having previously won the June award following an impressive start to his tenure.
Nyirenda received the award at half-time during Sunday’s league encounter against Blue Eagles at Mpira Stadium, where Big Bullets went on to register a 2-0 victory to move to the summit of the standings.
The latest recognition follows a four-match unbeaten run spanning August and the final fixture of the first round in September, during which Nyirenda’s side collected 10 points from a possible 12 without conceding a goal.
Big Bullets began the run with a 2-0 victory over Chitipa United at Mpira Stadium. Blessings Mpokera opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Clever Kalambo doubled the advantage two minutes later.
Nyirenda’s men followed that result with a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Karonga United, with Ephraim Kondowe scoring the decisive goal in the 37th minute at Karonga Stadium.
The People’s Team then played out a goalless draw against Luanar Mitundu at Dedza Stadium before producing their most emphatic performance of the run in their final first-round fixture.
On 5 September, Big Bullets thrashed Silver Strikers 5-0 at Mpira Stadium, with Kondowe scoring a hat-trick while Wongani Lungu and Misheck Billiat also found the net.
Across the four matches, Nyirenda’s side scored eight goals, conceded none and recorded four consecutive clean sheets, underlining their defensive solidity and attacking efficiency.
The Zambian tactician claimed the award ahead of fellow nominees Declerk Msakakuona of Blue Eagles and Abbas Makawa of Civil Service United.
Nyirenda, who previously coached ZESCO United and ZANACO in Zambia, has made an encouraging impact since taking charge of the Malawian outfit, with his latest award further highlighting his influence in the neighbouring country’s top-flight league.
Big Bullets continued their impressive form on Sunday with the 2-0 victory over Blue Eagles, a result that lifted them to 33 points at the start of the second round.
They now lead the standings by one point over their closest challengers, Mighty Wanderers, as the race for the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership title intensifies.
