GOVERNMENT’S fundraising drive for a new Chipolopolo expatriate coach has suffered a major blow after mining giants, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), declared that they have no money to splash towards the cause.
As if that is not enough, some of the receptive mining companies and corporate entities approached have indicated that they can only start helping out in January next year.
Sports Minister Vincent Mwale said in an interview at the weekend that KCM had just responded to the Government’s request, stating that they would not take part in the financing of the salary for the national coach.
“KCM just responded to us that they cannot finance the salary for the coach while other mining companies and corporate entities are just either quiet or saying that maybe they can join-in in January next year,” he said.
“Most companies have their financial year starting in January and then we are going to them in the middle of the year asking for a lot of money to the tune of US$25,000 per month, but we can’t force them, so all we have to do is wait.
“It’s quite tricky for us, we are trying hard and I am not sleeping over this. We have a commitment from one company for $6,000 but they can only start in January. One more company has also said maybe they can help out in a small way but also starting in January,” he said.
As a result of the predicament, Mwale said the Government was considering combining the pledges in order to meet the $25,000 budget per month.
Mwale revealed that FAZ had indicated that they wanted to give the coach a two-and-a-half-year contract which would run up to the end of the Russia 2018 World Cup.
FAZ also announced last week that it had finished the selection process and that a name was ready and just waiting for the Government to finance the salary.
While expressing optimism that money will be found before Zambia’s next AFCON qualifier against Kenya in three weeks’ time, Mwale said the Government treasury was an option although the thought itself was too tough to ask.
“As you are aware, the treasury gave out a lot of money to pay off Dario Bonetti. So it would be difficult to convince the Ministry of Finance to give us more money. But I am quite hopeful something will come up pretty soon,” he said.

Haha did I not say Zambia is a poor country, sorry Zambia will go no where with soccer,
Lol is this true, thought my source within Faz was joking…yet people like kalu are living rich lives in johannesburg while we dnt have funds to pay a coach..
Yaba but iwe sure failing to understand simple english sure? who is talking about Kalu here? Its Vincent Mwale talking about foreign coach chapwa not at Kalu.. Yaba!!!!!!!
@nicoBlezz, truth hurts right?
Whats that the truth? The Zambian government has no money to pay expaertritate coach and KCM does not have the money, other companies can only start next year in January, now what has Kalu gat to do? mind you that is the Minister talking not any other person. But why has Kalu’s life style gat to do with this? Do you want him to be paying a national team coach?
Yes let Kalu contribute from the 80,000 USD he borrowed in the name of FAZ. That amount he has refused to explain whether it was remitted to FAZ. It can cover 3 months salary. The rest can be paid from the 2 million USD earned from the games Vs Brazil and Japan
Where has this money gone? It is a lot
Can you or Andrew Kamanga go and borrow even $1 from Binnie and you will be given? In that matter ACC go involved and what have they found? for any case to come up they should be a complainant, is Binnie complaining? or its just you guys? that my brothers was done not because of FAZ but pure on personnal relationship, how many FA’s in Africa are facing financial challenges and Binnie has not come to their aid?
lol!!!!!!!!!
So it means the fundraising process for the coach’s salary will resume in January 2016. What happens to the successful coach already been identified, will he/she/it be waiting until January 2016?
“…. Maybe they can join in in January….” “…. maybe they can help in a small way…” . Too many grey areas for such an important venture. Maybe this maybe that …. Gosh! Just cut the crap and let’s do with what we have.
Solution: If FAZ can’t afford a foreign coach, just continue with a local coach (not the current coach). It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
And Edger Lungu is busy fly everywhere with nothing to show for his work as President. Zambia as country is going to shit. Corruption and useless leaders are what the issue is. Kalu is living large in South Africa and he is milking every penny he can from Faz and you punks are just watching and praising this mofon? Pathetic at its best. Might as well disband the team, what next? oh same song..can’t pay the players yet Kalu and his wife are caching in in all those TV deals etc. Continue to sleep and praising this inept Kalu.
“Am not answerable to anyone”, KALU was reported as saying early this year in response to queries about lack of transparence in FAZ! The corporates are very careful to sink their money in a bottomless pit such as KALU,s administration
It is ridiculous to ask them to fund a Coach whose nationality is unknown, an unknown element and for all they know with possibly a dubious background and worse still part of the US $25000 going torwards financing KALU’s lavish life style with his Italian Suzie! What nonsense! As far as the Corporates are concerned they are not prepared to be part of a corrupt gravy train that is FAZ. Let Kalusha source funding for the Coach from people he is answerable to, period!
@ Slim you spot on . Am very excited where I am here in the bush ! Cooperate world please keep it up, let Kalu resign because we want some who will be answerable to us period. By the my tribal cousin Bwezani your H.E where are you ? Please we need your influence because you are a true patron. Ba honorable whisper to his H.E our former president.

Well said.
Who pays for Kalusha’s rents and stay in S. Africa?. Twebeniko twishibe maybe we can join your protests. Its quite disturbing crying for a foreign Coach even after years of doing football. let’s learn to use our own give them support just as u wld give the mwisa. “WE CAN DO THIS AND ARCHIVE”.
Too bad for my country Zambia. What is the way forward now bwana minister?
Zambia is poor do u can’t blame some of people for going to diaspora countries like sa, Australia and us. I knew they can’t pay for a coach
Too bad for Chipolopolo team. Let’s work on what is available. @ Justice where are you? You said it! Zambia is not poor! But its sad!!! Let’s give support to Lwandamina that is the only thing! I don’t see a new coach next for Chipos

My dear brother I am not surprised. Ama company have lost faith in FAZ, and Government is tired of funding FAZ without tu FAZ showing how they spend taxpayers money. When Govt asks FAZ runs to FIFA crying and ka Blatter comes with threats
FAZ ask FIFA to help you pay the salaries of a new coach

A country that has loadshedding everyday for more than a month can’t afford to pay for a coach
lets bring patrick phiri to be the head coach to be assisted fighton sinukonda and h. janza
How are you going to pay the three? You mean they should work free of charge???

I think the corporate world has lost faith in the national team bcos of its poor form. I can’t blame though cos who wants to splash cash when the expectations have dwindled? Remember how sponsorship was coming in after the winning the AFCON??? It just shows that sponsorship and performance are compatible.
Look no further, coach Chicken George is available and may be better placed to drill the squad. The truth is FAZ doesn’t have the cash to pay the foreign coach.Give Lwandamina a good contract, lets support him.
How can FAZ that has no funds be able to give Lawandamina a good a contract
icintu cintu umwene so iseni tupele support ba chicken remember together we can win instead of pointing fingures to each other leteni amano pamo!

Zambia has a population of approximately 13million if we all donate fifty ngwee/month(which comes to K6.5m) m sure we can afford. Let FAZ set up donation centres in all provinces.
What? 13 million workers you mean. Does this include children, villagers without work and old people. @ZimNdola I do not get your point, can you please explain what you excatly mean for I am lost
ZimaNdola
The corporate world knows the money is going into Kalu’s pocket and there is nothing to show for it, so they would rather spend their money on things that are beneficial than sending money to Kalu to misuse in SA.
Kalu is as useless as those that worship him.
We live in a time and age where different opinions must be respected (wether we agree with them or not). I respect your views on Kalu. But to label those who don’t agree with you as Kalu’s worshipers and useless suggests that your thought process belongs to the Stone Age period. This is football. Our differing views on issues should not make us less tolerant of others otherwise we risk the embarssment of having our IQs brutally exposed.
it is you who is useless look at what you do for a living
@ba justice lack of transparency in FAZ is wht causes pipo 2 lose confidence in it, even grants tht donors or govt give out hv 2 be accounted 4 so they kno tht thrz prudent use of thr monies. FAZ must first address its constitution coz pipo shud not over stay in certain positions. If pipo r nt happy with hw u ran yo organization they cnt fund it. So tht 13million thing was just a joke coz its practically impossible. Hp i hv cleared da air.
Totally agree with you man
Got you my brother
To Bad Mother Zambia,i Wish A Miracle Could Happen Now.With Or Without An Exparite Coach Zambia Wil Qualify Regardless Of The Tactics.Lwandamina Has Proved To Be A Good Coach. Those Who Are Still Dreamin And Comparing Janza With Lwandamia Should Start Analysin Netball.Lwandamina Is Far Much Better Than Janza.Football Is All About Preparation And Understandin Opponents Tactics, weaknesses And Strength.Go Zambia Go.
The problem is that no matter how good a coach can be, he will never succeed when he can’t choose his own team. Lwandamina is just being used as a rubber stamp. We all know that
Why is this a government issue??? where is Kalusha and all his connections? all the travelling he does can not he come up with some sort of way forward here?? is he not supposed to be at the forefront of engaging the corp world…..? where is the leadership on this issue from him?????
Just wondering as well. Why is Govt in the forefront and FAZ in the background. Very strange
ba justice mulanda kwati mwache who is using lwandamina you mean he cannot make his own decisions
I am lost for words. So these guys were just lying to us when they were parroting that the Chipolopolo coach would be announced before the Kenya game. What a country Zambia is. This is embarrassing to say the least. Surely a country with a the natural resources and wealth failing to pay a coach sure. Even poor countries in the west of Africa can afford decent foreign coaches. The problem in Zambia is that everything is politicised. Politicians can worst millions of dollars on nonsense couple by corruption and yet they are failing to pay a coach. Zambia’s poverty is self-inflicted. Management at FAZ are also to blame due to their poor administration. If FAZ had put their house in order, some companies would have come forth to assist, but the corporate world has no faith in this useless FAZ administration led by Kalusha, and thats why they can’t commit themselves. They know their money will only go to finance FAZ and the globe-trotting president. Its a matter of “fili ekotuleya, twalibelela”.
Wati bufi, nifili ekotuleya, twalibelela, fika isova mailo
Eish Zed neh….. to think $25,000 is about the amount Kennedy Mweene earns at Sundowns and the whole Nation of Zambia can’t afford to pay a national coach this salary.
I bet my little finger that there are other reasons that these companies are pulling out and are using the whole financial year budget story as a simple tag line to pull out. $25,000 is not a lot of money truth be told, it is not a sum of money that can make a copper producing 51 year old country sweat. This is less than some of the executives in the same mines earn.
Zambia maybe poor but we are certainly not this level of poverty stricken that $25,000 is such a mountain to climb. I wish someone can tell the truth here, someone can tell us the nation why the one thing that brings us smiles (football) is also now being taken away from us. The country is in a deplorable state as a result of consistent poor leadership and soccer is an uplifting thing now even that is getting battered.
You’re on point Steve. Very well said. Thats my point as well. The only answer to the questions is poor leadership in Zambia at all levels.
Steve, those were my thoughts exactly. KCM and the mining companies who’s parent company reported profits of $989 Million in 2014 can’t afford to donate even $15,000 to the paying of a new coach.
These are all fake stories. FAZ has lost the confidence of the corporate world, and the general public. This is also why I see why KK11 is stating that Kalu has not even shown any leadership in trying to source the funds for FAZ. People do not trust him at all.
Let’s not complicate issues here. Lwandamina and Janza are all the same. We have seen both coaches, leaving out good players and expect a miracle to happen. Technically they can’t read the players even the game itself. This is a reason FAZ and Govt wanted a foreign coach. He benched Chisamba Lungu and fail to call good players like Jacob Mulenga, and Kola. U can be a qualified Doctor but if you are useless, you are useless! Period. They have coaching Licenses with no ability to do the job. A good coach is friendly to players.!
If you go back to one of the stories previously reported on Zamfoot about two or three months ago, the same Mwale was quoted as saying, the government is ready financially to support the engagement of new coach and were just waiting for Faz act. How do both Faz and the Government only start looking for money now. Someone somewhere is not serious. The circus continues….
This sports minister seems to be one who shoots from the hip. He has come out with so many promises when it comes to the coach and yet here we are. Typical politician all words and nothing to show for the words. Maybe now he should just keep quiet and let FAZ try and do their job although they have been just as dismal at it when it comes to this coach saga.
For sure! He should stop running his mouth, and all of them should get down to dealing with the real underlying administrative issues that are constantly hindering our team’s progress.
Its good we know the truth that its imposible to. Bring a foreign couch at this point…..we just have to do with what we have. For us to improve, FAZ should notinvolve themselves in the selection of the players when it comes to assignments and also the couch should call players on merit….players who are performing, players who are fit…..not just marketing young players and costing the national team.
This to me has a mark of vote of no confidence in Faz by the the cooperate world and partners. Only one thing needs to be done here – the date for the Faz convention should be brought forward and let’s have new people ushered into office. We need to rescue the situation while we can.
Now you’re talking brother.
I just knew when the minister said the government has gathered the money so upto faz to identify the couch & faz also said we have finished the process its upto government to give us a go ahead, I knew they is nothing fruitful. zambia can do better with a local couch but faz corruption in players selection. we will remain under dogs.
No company would want to waste money this time. FAZ is not serious with business
How can one trust a FAZ chairman who borrows 80,000 USD from a friend in FIFA, using the name of FAZ, but refuses to explain whether the 80,000 USD went into his pocket or were really remitted to FAZ. He further confuses himself by stating that it was a loan, and that his friend had told him that FAZ or is it himself should not pay back
To tell the truth Kalu with FAZ are finished if they wont find means of paying the coach
Govt helped these guys by paying Bonetti a large amount of money
What about the Grant from FIFA? Where does this go? No one knows
One thing I have observed is that almost all members of FAZ are now silent, as though they don’t exist. Why? The reason is simple, it is like they are all the same
Okay, here’s my question. Instead of continuing to spend money on bringing in foreign coaches. Why not use the money to send a local coach on attachment to some of the bigger clubs in Europe so they can get some much needed training. Why not reach out to the embassies as FAZ President to get some training for local coaches?
Is this not a long term solution, rather than this exercise in hiring expensive foreign coaches.
Agreed very good idea, but I just wonder whether the coaches to undergo training will picked on merit, if it were FAZ to decide
Its not just about training but the abiity 2 read games. Janza on paper was da rite man bt practically eish!!! Katwishi. What if we got Patrick,Wedson and chicken together on the bench nd give them an assignment WC & CAN. The only challenge nimpiya. Ba FAZ b mo innovative run like a business so many ways 2 raise money. I can suggest a few
@Mambwe ZimaNdola my brother FAZ do not care about being innovative by running FAZ like a business, because they know FAZ is a gold mine. Grants from FIFA, money from marketing players, appearance fees from friendly games like the 2 Vs Japan & Brazil
Still doubt any local coach is good enough for the job. Their body language betrays their inferiority complex. Their laid back approach and the “let’s wait and see” attitude during matches drains any sort of faith the fans may have in them. And that same lack of self belief is easily spreads on to the players. Players want to play for a coach with a strong character and with a personality that exhibits a winning mentality. I’m afraid our locals just don’t have charisma. This is what makes this whole saga even more painfull.
This is an exercise in futility. FAZ has lost the masses with their closed door policy. There was a time when the entire country and businesses were flocking around FAZ to help, now they are reaping what they have sown. I wouldn’t want to pay money to hire a coach who has not been interviewed or even gone through any sort of advertising or selection process.
Let us wait for 2016 after FAZ elections. If this nonsense of changing Faz constitution to Wamuyaya for Kalu comes up then Zambian soccer will die for ever. Even the Fifa rankings can tell – plummeting like our own Kwacha!
At least I now have a reason not to watch Chipolopolo with all the passion as before.
Qualification will be a bonus. Failure to qualify will still be accommodated since its likely. Whatever we say here the so called FAZ councillors can never say any word to Kalu at the conference. On thus one m very convinced. The guy will crookedly go thru third term.
It is very true that some of the so called FAZ councillors have never said and can never say any word to FAZ Chairman at the conference, or even in the street. There are very few FAZ councillors who dare face Chairman of FAZ eye to eye. This what happens countries where corruption is the order of the day. Some councillors will just be given 5 Dollars, 5 footballs, 11 pairs of football boots and they will shut up
I do not know what they are afraid of and I don’t think I would like to know
Zambian football and sport as a whole is in the reverse gear, and reverse gear has the Zambian running at 150 km an hour. Very soon we gonna see and it will be the same usual song “Getting back to the drawing board” kwati echi sungu fye baishiba
Ala bwafya bane ni tighten up your belts apa nkani waipa baba
yaipa
“on this one” I meant to say.
Its day 3 for Chipolopolo in camp. My question is do Lwandamina tell the guys what he wants? Am not a coach but what have seen, our team struggles to score, and Chicken should be in the position to identify the deficit of our team 1) scoring opportunities is our huger problem, 2) we play very deep hence we concede goals. 3) which style of play should the boys adapt. 4) bola chipante pante. We don’t enjoy the game 5) game formation which suit our style of play! Kaya
So Lwandamina is still take care, and for that matter without a contract.
My question is? Are Zesco paying Lwandamina a full salary when he is with is with the KK11?
Zambian clubs should wake up and help in putting things in order. If I were chairman of Zesco I would not release Lwandamina until there was a contract. I would demand that FAZ pay Lwandamina for the days he is away from his job at Zesco, and request Zesco to deduct the same from his salaries
I am aware I won’t be popular over this contribution, but seen from the birds perspective this will force FAZ either to employee a care taker coach, pay his salary until a permanent solution is found. Zesco as a club is suffering. This applies to other clubs. Look at ba Rangers languishing at the bottom of the ZPL and yet they found okay to release Simukonda. While other countries like Nigeria can employee fulltime coaches at junior level U17/U20, in Zambia FAZ dictates clubs to do so
If we continue like this things will never
care taker I meant
KCM can’t help now!. Beside that, all teams sponsored by KCM are not doing fine, they are likely to go down div1. Our players too luck character no determination no vision. that makes them less marketable to the west African. In general our performance is very low. Recently a Zimbabwean Prisons coach said zambians luck direction and loss hope fast. that was during the Prisons SADC games.
lol!!!!!! ala insoni sha lichi lamo fye kuli fwe bena Zambia, elyo nasho ishabufi
Why is Zambia finding it difficult to pay $25,000 for a foreign coach? You dont reap where you never sow. Even if Zambia should appoint a local coach there must be a contract in place stating clearly the salary of the coach.Ghana’s former coach Kwasi Appiah even though a local coach had a Contact in place and was been paid a gross monthly salary of $36,000. so why cant Zambia do same. Could it be because most of the zambia players do nor earn much at their club level thats why they dont want to pay that much for a coach? Just imagine Essien earning $150,000 dollars per week when he was at Chelsea, Gyan over $350,000, kwadwo Asamoah at Juve,Dede AYEW($80,000 PER WEEK) and even Baba Rahman who just signed for Chelsea earning something close to $70,000 and your employ a coach that you pay him say $10,000 which is the winning bonus of the players how would such players even respect that coach? A food for though for FAZ and the Government
if u gv Chicken $10,000 a month that is a lot for him to b motivated to win. why waste $25pin on a foreign coach?
