NKANA coach Aggrey Chiyangi says young defender Kapota Kayawe should not be rushed to feature into the senior national team before he establishes himself at the club.
Kayawe, a Kafue Celtic player on loan at Nkana and Patson Daka on loan at Power Dynamos are both perpetual call-ups to all national teams, Under-20, Under-23 and the senior national team despite their respective club forms being questionable.
Kayawe in particular has failed to command a regular first team position and has mostly not impressed when given a chance in a Nkana shirt, the case in point being Saturday’s week 20 encounter against Zesco United. In this encounter, Jackson Mwanza, Winston Kalengo and Mwape Mwelwa feasted on Kayawe and his backline leading to Zesco’s 3-2 lead before he was substituted just after 35 minutes. That gave Zesco an advantage to win the match with a 5-3 margin at full time.
Asked about Kayawe’s early substitution and his overall performance, Chiyangi said the defender needed to play in many high quality league matches before he could play in the national team.
“This is why we are crying to say Kapota needs a lot of league games. They should not be rushing him to the senior team, he needs a lot of games. If you saw he was a bit uncomfortable so he has to play more of these games then it will help him. It will help him a lot,” said Chiyangi.
The young defender has already been named in the provisional Chipolopolo team that will face Kenya in the AfCON qualifier next month.
National team coach George Lwandamina said: “They (Nkana) train with him, I have nothing to say about that. I don’t know how much he had put in training and I don’t know where he missed the game plan.”
[The Post]

He should have Called Lwandamina and had a PRIVATE talk with him about this matter instead of discussing it with the media. It does’nt do the young boys confidence the world of good knowing that your club coach does not have confidence in you and wants you dropped from the national team.
Why a private discussion. People must be told the truth be it in public or not. Many people have watched this boy and have said he is not good enough for the senior National yet, so what is there to hide anway??
Coach Chiyangi has the best intentions here BUT he’s totally got it wrong by publicly dressing down the boy. This is simple basic player management skills that he has failed to show here. He has a great point but doing it via media is awful in so far as helping the lad is concerned.
Yes this is not good for the young man.Though anyone who watched the Zesco -Nkana match would somehow understand Chiyangi’s frustration.
ask Jose Mourinho if there is that so called private talk in football
Mourinho ain’t no saint.
I like Chiyangi he speaks his mind.I also like his analytical skills,I was impressed when he featured on super sport during the afcon last year .If i was Kalusha Bwalwa I would have sent this guy for an advanced coaching school in the diaspora.
These are the true and real coaches that we need to be part of the technical bench, that is a very good advise and I really think that it must be taken because it is wise. If he has spoken about kayawe who even featured in the game against zesco what more about patson daka, please bombenifye inchito, look at herve renard how many youngstars did he take ku afcon only one and he was not used. Poseniko amano muletumweneshamo we like football
its his team to send him for such training
Self interest FAZ within the chipolopolo administration setup is destroying our football…call players based on performance not selfish interests in relationship to contracts; do we even have an independent thinking coach at the helm of chipolopolo??? Faz entire executive needs to go!
Any Kafuel Celtic player or K stars will always be called because the are teams owned by Kalu and his acomplice. They are doing this just to make a sale at the expence of National glory. Patson Daka was an unused substitute on Sunday in a game against Nakambala beause his form is not so good. Martin Phiri is far better than Patson. Conlyde Luchanga can do far better that Patson looking at the current form. Lwandamina can’t say anything because he was just handpicked by Kalu. This Kalu must go. Let Kamanga or someone take over or else the beautiful game will turn ugly. Let’s see which foreign based players will be called. I expect the following strikers to be called for assesment before he makes the final team :1.Jacob Mulenga 2. Roger Kola .3.Lineker Mwikisa .4. Alex Ng’onga .5.Evans Kangwa.6.Sate Sate plus midfeilders Clatous Chama, Julius Situmbeko and Mwape Mwelwa coz they are doing well in the local league.
No not Kamanga let’s try Hanif Adam of Lusaka dynamos. he has proved that he can handle football business seriously and he’s not corrupt.
If we have to try Hanif Adam then he has to leave the running of his Club to someone else, otherwise we may risk having half Lusaka Dynamos players in the U/17/20/23 and Senior Team. We need someone who has no relations to any club
Looking at Lwandamina’s response its clear the team is selected for him.
Yes it is the truth
You can say that again.
So Chicken George doesn’t know well about Kapota yet he calls him to the squad. This means George is not the one selecting players unless he reason like a real chicken.
This is really sad, what is wrong with our inkoko kanshi. Chicken we need for supper. Baiche ikateni mukolwe uyu tu mulye lelo lol!!!!!
Has this boy not been training under Lwandamina? Just shows that a National coach attached to a Club will never succeed as he has no time to watch/monitor players or even talk to club coaches
So he chooses players he does not know whether they are inform or not? Any he can’t dare ba FAZ
Ha ha ha ha Mukolwe wapa kapanda I agree guys the Coach needs to be independent not playing under the cards of Kalu and some interested parties…
LINEKAR MY FOOT.
Why is Zambia finding it difficult to pay $25,000 for a foreign coach? You dont reap where you never sow. Even if Zambia should appoint a local coach there must be a contract in place stating clearly the salary of the coach.Ghana’s former coach Kwasi Appiah even though a local coach had a Contact in place and was been paid a gross monthly salary of $36,000. so why cant Zambia do same. Could it be because most of the zambia players do nor earn much at their club level thats why they dont want to pay that much for a coach? Just imagine Essien earning $150,000 dollars per week when he was at Chelsea, Gyan over $350,000, kwadwo Asamoah at Juve,Dede AYEW($80,000 PER WEEK) and even Baba Rahman who just signed for Chelsea earning something close to $70,000 and your employ a coach that you pay him say $10,000 which is the winning bonus of the players how would such players even respect that coach? A food for though for FAZ and the Government
My friend in Zambia, they don’t appreciate theirs. But again, you can’t blame them as our local coaches are not up to scratch. I agree with you though, that even local coaches have to be given a contract even if it’s worth $5,000 per month. That’s why the former coach, Janza, was fired because he was complaining that he didn’t have a contract. We have a leadership crisis in Zambia.
Not Andrew Kamanga let’s try people who have produced results like Hanif Adams. he’s real material for that post.
Ba Kalusha bena awe mwandini. Kuya bebele mwe. We need a serious FAZ president domiciled in Zambia and his executive which is committed to the welfare of football in the country. Ba Kalu kuwayawaya fye nomba.
Kalusha alikwata ameno ayatwa, He is so influential to some people who like worshipping individuals.
callups for Jacob is a good thing for zambians
Spot on Chiyangi, these youngsters need more exposure before they are drafted into the senior chipolopolo.
Lwandamina must continue including the like of KK,Benson Sakala, Chirwa and the rest of the younsters in the provisional Chipolopolo squad. KK had a bad game against Nkana yes, we all saw that. But then again KK has played very well at U23 level. In my opinion Kapota is a better defender that Muntali, kabaso or Kondwani
Some (not all) of these youngsters get big-headed once called up to even just train with the senior team and think they are super stars. The team psychologist must give his opinion as well before such choices are made. But as usual professionals (psychologists..) are not consulted simply because we don’t 100% believe in their role in the team.
And what are the concerned clubs doing to assist these youngsters fit into the national Team? Isn’t it a plus for club to have its player donning national teams colours in terms of the experience and depth the bring to their clubs after international engagements?
IT IS UNFAIR TO JUDGE THE BOY ON ONE GAME! i FOR ONE HAVE WATCHED THIS BOY FROM UNDER 17 UP TO 23 AND HE HAS ALWAYS COMMANDED THE BACKLINE VERY WELL AND HE IS USUALLY COMPARED AND NICK NAMED SUNZU.
I REALLY DONT KNOW WAT CHAYANGI IS TALKING ABOUT MAYBE HE IS JEALOUS COZ HE NEVER HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO DON NATIONAL COLOURS AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE.
dONT JUST AGREE TO ANYTHING THIS BOY HAS WORKED HAD AND TRUELY DESERVES A PLACE IN THE NATIONAL TEAM AT ANY LEVEL. ANY DEFENDER HAS AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER HAD A BAD GAME AND KAYAWE IS NOT AN EXCEPTION.
AS THE BEST DEFENDERS THEY WILL TELL YOU.
SO LETS NOT SUPPORT ANY STATEMENT WITHOUT KNOWING THE PLAYER IN QUESTION. THOSE WHO HAVE WATCHED THE BOY AT NATIONAL TEAM WILL AGREE WITH ME THAT THE BOY IS GOOD.
I ain’t gonna say nothing! Maan that boy is bad!
No players from kalulushi nd lumwana but there doin we’ll ninshi pantu
Only one from warriors.
