High Flying Nkwazi finished the 2020/21 season on 8th position 3 points outside the top 4 brackets and CAF club qualifying slots.
With the new season set to kick off soon, the Zambia police-sponsored outfit has intensified training during the pre-season to better the last season’s performance.
The Zamfoot Crew was at miller ground in Lilayi of Lusaka district to see how Nkwazi FC preparations are going and found the team in high spirits. All players were present at the time of the visit except Langson Kapumbu who has joined Prison Leopards with new additions whose names will be withheld until the team makes the official announcement.
The ZamFoot Crew had an opportunity to speak to one of the players who played a big role in making sure the team finished in the top 8 for 2020/21 FAZ/MTN Super League, Charles Muntanga the Nkwazi goalkeeper.
Muntanga was very instrumental last season and made a record 17 clean sheets in a single season.
“So far so good since we rested for a few weeks and I feel there isn’t much load but to continue where we left from last season,” Muntanga told ZamFoot in an exclusive interview
When asked what the team needs to do which they didn’t do last season to finish in a better position, Muntanga pointed out finishing chances, something they did not do a lot in the first half of last season.
“I think we did well last season just that we didn’t convert a lot of goals during the season especially the first round a thing which I think will need attention and a team we should be able to start on a good note this time around.”
Each team has objectives that they set before the start of each season and Charles muntanga and Nkwazi FC have hope that they will meet the targets which they have set for the coming season which includes playing the ABSA Cup.
“As a team it’s finishing in the top 4 to play CAF competitions and playing our local cup which is ABSA.”
Nkwazi will be among the 18 teams poised for the 2021/22 MTN Super League season which is scheduled for a start next month and their fans will expect a better performance than that of last season.
The Police sponsored outfit will start their campaign away to Nkana at Nkana Stadium.
