Albert Mphande has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant top job at Zambia Super League side, Nkwazi FC, the ZamFoot Crew understands.
The Zambia Police sponsored outfit has already made contact with their former head coach the ZamFoot Crew can exclusively reveal.
This follows the premature departure of Tenant Chilumba who ditched the Lusaka based outfit to join ZESCO United as assistant coach to George Lwandamina.
Mphande could make a return to Edwin Imboela Stadium four years after he was fired and replaced with Chris Kaunda.
Mphande was fired after a poor start to the 2018 FAZ Super Division season saw Nkwazi sit in 12th place and only collect 7 points from six games.
The experienced gaffer has been around for a long time on the Zambian football scene and he is currently Chisi Mbewe’s assistant coach at U-20 national team.
He coached Baobab school and made it the first Zambian school to reach the quarter-finals of Norway cup in Norway.
Mphande also made Chiparamba Great Eagles a dominant force in Europe from 2002-2005 a thing which made him be spotted by European clubs as he went on to coach in Stockholm of Sweden at IFK FC a team he won promotion with from 4th tier to 2nd tier league during his two seasons he spent at the club before returning to Zambia.
He has coached Nkwazi FC as an assistant and won promotion with them to super league and made them reach the 2016 Barclays Cup (now ABSA cup) final.
He nearly won promotion to Super League with Kitwe United before he ditched them for City of Lusaka as he left the team in the top 4 of the Eden University National Division One.
Mphande was also part of the Zambia under-17 and U-20 2019 COSAFA cup-winning technical benches, At the Senior level, he won the 2020 Sam Nujoma cup in Namibia all as an assistant to Osward Mutapa.
Nkwazi still have a number of options should this fail to materialize with Dennis Makinka, Mohamed Fathi, and Chris Kaunda all available and unattached.
