Zambia Super League side, Nkana has confirmed that they will appeal striker Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga’s ban by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Disciplinary Committee.
Ng’onga was on Thursday handed a stiff ban by the Football Association of Zambia following his incident in the Kitwe derby.
The passionate striker who had been on a provisional suspension since November after he was caught on camera kicking a Supersport microphone after being substituted during the Kitwe derby has been banned for the rest of the season.
The Disciplinary Committee found Ng’onga in breach of Article 48 of the FAZ Disciplinary Code.
Ng’onga has also been slapped with a K20, 000 fine to be paid within seven days.
Club Chief Executive Officer, Kelvin Mutafu has asked the fans to keep calm and be patient as the club uses the right channels to appeal the case and get a ‘fair verdict’.
“Nkana supporters, good evening. Following the judgement of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Disciplinary Committee involving Nkana striker Alex “Bazo” Ng’onga, we wish to appeal to all our fans and sympathisers to remain calm as we follow the normal procedures of appealing this verdict to the Appeals Committee.
We are certain that the due process will give Alex and the Club a fair verdict. Stay blessed and remain calm.”
Facts of the matter are that during a Week 14 Super League match between Nkana and Power Dynamos played on 19th November 2022 at Nkana Stadium Ng’onga vented his anger on a Super Sport pitch side microphone that he kicked after having ripped his Nkana jersey before glaring television cameras.
This was shortly after being substituted by the technical bench which did not go down well with the striker.
Ng’onga was provisionally suspended by FAZ in line with Article 53 (4) of the Disciplinary Code of 2021 pending the determination of his matter by the Disciplinary Committee.
