Nkana, MUZA and Kabwe Warriors shine as Green Eagles maintain perfect start

Nkana FC, FC MUZA and Kabwe Warriors recorded impressive victories on Saturday as the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional League gathered momentum, while Green Eagles continued their impressive start with a narrow win over ZESCO United.

Nkana delivered the most emphatic result of the day, thrashing Makeni All Stars 4-1 at Nkana Stadium, while MUZA scored four against Kansanshi Dynamos to claim a convincing home victory at Nakambala Stadium.

Kabwe Warriors also came from behind to beat Mutondo Stars 3-2 in an entertaining Stream B encounter, with Paul Tembo scoring twice late in the second half to complete the turnaround.

Elsewhere, Green Eagles defeated ZESCO United 1-0 at Trade Fair Ground to maintain their perfect record, while four matches ended goalless as the second round of fixtures produced a mixture of dramatic finishes, hard-fought draws and commanding performances.

Stream A: Nkana hit four as MUZA cruise to victory

Nkana FC 4-1 Makeni All Stars

Nkana FC produced a powerful response after falling behind early to beat Makeni All Stars 4-1, securing their second consecutive victory of the transitional season.

Emmanuel Silomba gave the visitors a surprise lead in the eighth minute, finishing after finding himself unmarked as Makeni threatened to upset the hosts.

The match took a contentious turn nine minutes later when Lazarous Kambole appeared to have equalised following a Charles Zulu throw-in. However, the goal was ruled out after protests from the Makeni players, who threatened to walk off the pitch.

The ensuing confrontation brought play to a lengthy halt, adding further tension to an already feisty encounter.

Nkana eventually found their breakthrough deep into first-half stoppage time. Defender Michael Chapota levelled the scores in the eighth minute of added time before Kambole struck six minutes later to send Kalampa into the break with a 2-1 advantage.

With the psychological advantage secured, Nkana controlled proceedings after the restart and continued to put pressure on the visitors.

Kambole completed his brace in the 79th minute before substitute Nduna Zulu added a fourth three minutes later, putting the result beyond doubt.

The victory strengthens Nkana’s position in Stream A, where they lead the standings with six points from two matches.

Having opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Trident FC, Nkana have now scored five goals without conceding a defeat in their opening two fixtures.

Their next assignment will be a midweek trip to face NAPSA Stars, where they will seek to extend their winning run.

FC MUZA 4-1 Kansanshi Dynamos

FC MUZA bounced back in emphatic fashion, defeating Kansanshi Dynamos 4-1 at Nakambala Stadium in a match dominated by Tobias Chungu and Lewis Kasono.

Chungu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, but Kansanshi responded almost immediately through Joseph Ssemujju, who announced himself in the Zambian Premier League with an impressive finish three minutes later.

Mathews Tolopa provided the assist for Ssemujju’s equaliser, briefly giving the visitors hope of taking something from the encounter.

MUZA, however, restored their advantage in the 36th minute when Chungu completed his brace, sending the hosts into half-time with a 2-1 lead.

Kansanshi attempted to change the course of the match at the interval, introducing Beby Musangala for Kizito Keziron and Brighton Kabumba for Willy Bokingo.

The visitors showed moments of promise after the restart, with Ssemujju coming close to scoring his second of the afternoon. His powerful effort was saved by the MUZA goalkeeper.

Goalkeeper Gwazani also produced important saves to keep Kansanshi within touching distance, but the visitors were unable to prevent MUZA from pulling away in the closing stages.

Kasono took charge of the contest in the final 15 minutes, converting a direct free-kick in the 78th minute before scoring again four minutes later to complete the 4-1 victory.

The result moves MUZA to four points from their opening two matches, leaving them second in Stream A behind leaders Nkana.

Kansanshi, meanwhile, will need to regroup after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.

Trident FC 0-0 NAPSA Stars

Trident FC and NAPSA Stars shared the points after a goalless draw, with neither side able to find the breakthrough.

The result leaves NAPSA unbeaten after two matches, having drawn both of their opening fixtures.

Trident, meanwhile, have collected one point from their first two outings and will be looking to turn their performances into victories as the transitional campaign progresses.

Stream B: Kabwe Warriors stage late comeback as Green Eagles stay perfect

Kabwe Warriors 3-2 Mutondo Stars

Kabwe Warriors produced one of the day’s most entertaining performances, recovering from a deficit to defeat Mutondo Stars 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

Mutondo made a fast start, taking the lead in the fifth minute through Peter Makwati to put the hosts under immediate pressure.

Kabwe pushed for an equaliser after the restart and were rewarded in the 57th minute when Field Kandela found the back of the net to bring the scores level.

The response was short-lived, however, as Mutondo restored their advantage just a minute later through Raphael Silwimba, whose long-range free-kick put the visitors back in front at 2-1.

With time running out, Kabwe needed a strong finish to avoid defeat, and Paul Tembo delivered when it mattered most.

Tembo equalised in the 81st minute to bring the home supporters back to life before striking again in the 88th minute to complete the turnaround and secure all three points.

The late double gave Kabwe a valuable victory in a contest that looked to be slipping away after Silwimba’s goal.

The result leaves Kabwe on four points from their opening two matches, keeping them among the leading teams in Stream B.

For Mutondo, the defeat means they remain without a point after two matches, having now conceded six goals in their opening fixtures.

ZESCO United 0-1 Green Eagles

Green Eagles maintained their perfect start to the transitional season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over ZESCO United at Trade Fair Ground.

The decisive moment came in the 74th minute when substitute Amity Shimande found the net to break the deadlock and silence the home supporters.

ZESCO had applied considerable pressure during the first half, approaching the contest with the urgency of a cup final as they searched for their first win of the campaign.

Green Eagles weathered that pressure before finding their opportunity in the second half, with Shimande making the difference after coming off the bench.

The visitors held on to secure a second consecutive victory, taking their points tally to six from six and strengthening their position at the top of Stream B.

Their start has been particularly impressive given that both victories have come away from home.

Green Eagles will now return home looking to maintain their momentum as they continue their push for a place in the final playoff.

ZESCO, meanwhile, remain on one point from two matches after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.

Nkwazi FC 0-0 Chirundu United

Nkwazi FC and Chirundu United played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested encounter that offered neither side a decisive breakthrough.

The point leaves both teams searching for consistency as the transitional league continues, with Nkwazi having collected one point from their opening two matches.

Chirundu, meanwhile, have also recorded one point from two outings and will be hoping to turn their next opportunity into a first victory.

Red Arrows 0-0 Mufulira Wanderers

Red Arrows and Mufulira Wanderers were also unable to separate themselves, settling for a 0-0 draw.

For Red Arrows, the result represents a second consecutive match without defeat, taking their tally to four points and keeping them among the early pace-setters in Stream B.

Mufulira Wanderers, however, remain in the lower reaches of the standings with one point from two matches, leaving them with work to do as they seek to improve their position.

Roan United 0-0 Green Buffaloes

Roan United and Green Buffaloes shared the points after another goalless encounter.

Green Buffaloes will be relatively satisfied with the result, having collected four points from their opening two matches to remain among the leading teams in Stream B.

Roan United also moved to four points, continuing a solid start to their campaign after recording a win and a draw in their first two fixtures.

Stream A standings: Nkana set the pace

Nkana FC lead Stream A after two matches, with six points and a goal difference of +4. FC MUZA occupy second place on four points, ahead of Konkola Blades and Zanaco, who have each collected three points from their opening fixture.

NAPSA Stars sit fifth with two points after drawing both matches, while Trident FC, Kansanshi Dynamos and Makeni All Stars have one point apiece.

At the bottom, Power Dynamos and Nchanga Rangers have yet to register a point, although both have played only one match.

The standings reflect an encouraging start for Nkana, whose two victories have established them as early contenders for the Stream A playoff position.

Stream B standings: Green Eagles lead the way

Green Eagles sit at the top of Stream B with six points from two matches, having scored five goals and conceded just one.

Red Arrows, Green Buffaloes, Kabwe Warriors and Roan United are tied on four points, with goal difference separating the teams.

Chirundu United, Nkwazi FC, ZESCO United and Mufulira Wanderers have one point each, while Mutondo Stars are bottom after losing both of their opening fixtures.

Kabwe Warriors’ comeback victory has given them a timely boost, while Green Eagles’ consecutive away wins have made them the early team to beat in the stream.

Transitional league race begins to take shape

With two rounds of fixtures completed, the early picture is beginning to emerge in both streams.

Nkana and Green Eagles have made perfect starts, winning both of their opening matches to occupy top spot in their respective groups. MUZA and Kabwe Warriors have also strengthened their positions with important victories on Saturday.

The format leaves little room for complacency. Teams must finish strongly in their respective streams to secure a place in the final playoff, where the two stream winners will meet on 31 January 2027 to determine the transitional league champion and the country’s representative in the CAF Champions League.

For the teams at the bottom, the priority will be to collect points quickly and avoid being dragged into the relegation battle.

Saturday’s results have provided plenty of early talking points, from Nkana’s dramatic first-half turnaround to Kabwe Warriors’ late comeback and Green Eagles’ impressive run on the road.

With the campaign still in its early stages, however, consistency over the coming weeks will ultimately determine which teams emerge as genuine contenders and which find themselves fighting to stay clear of danger.
