The MTN/Super League action is nearing the business end and the exciting action will continue on Saturday afternoon with three exciting matches coming alive.
Defending Champions, Nkana who are surprisingly fighting relegation welcome inconsistent Prison Leopards at Nkana Stadium, NAPSA Stars play host to Green Eagles while title-chasing Sensational Zanaco will square off with relegated Kitwe United.
NAPSA Stars made their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup and went all the way to the group stage, impressive as it may be it’s now a distant memory as they find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle.
The Pensioners, who capitulated in midweek, giving away a one-goal lead, to lose 4-1 to fellow strugglers, Nkana at Nkana Stadium welcome, Choma-based Green Eagles in an early kick-off at Sunset Stadium, Live on Supersport 229 Variety 4.
NAPSA Stars sit in 15th place on the log with 36 points which sounds worse than it is as they can even finish in the top four should they win the majority of their remaining games, having played just 27 as of week 31. However, it’s their consistency that may be worrying looking at how they have only managed three wins from their last six games.
However, Jimmy Mukeya’s brilliant current form gives hope to the NAPSA hierarchy. The talented youngster has netted nine goals in all competitions including three in his last two games also laying on two assists in as many games.
Eagles, on the other hand, are coming from an emphatic 3-0 win over ten-man Indeni in midweek and are high on morale. The win in midweek took the Kawale Boys to 10th place with 40 points but they far from being safe from relegation.
Aggrey Chiyangi’s charges will hope to replicate their home fine form from two days ago but playing away at Sunset won’t be an easy task.
The second match at Sunset Stadium will see the Bankers, Sensational ZANACO squares off with already relegated, Kitwe United, This match will also be live on Supersport 229, Variety 4.
The match will see two bankers in Kiala Lassa and John Mwewa facing their former team for the first time at Sunset Stadium since they made their switch to join Chris Kaunda’s side.
Kaunda and his Bankers have been so phenomenal at home and the form of Moses Phiri has been something the Bankers have relied on for the majority of this season, having scored 15 goals already in the campaign.
A win for the Bankers will cut ZESCO United’s lead to just two points at least for 24 hours as Zega Mambo square off against Lusaka Dynamos on Sunday.
Kitwe United has nothing to lose at this point and that’s what makes them a tricky opponent and can not be underrated especially with the way Edward Lungu and Monday Bwalya have been playing, any defense should take a keen interest in the two and the threat they pose.
At Nkana Stadium, this has been a shocking season for the defending Super League champions as they have found themselves stuck in the relegation zone for the majority of this season.
Results have not been coming for the Wusakile based outfit but in midweek they summoned their inner ‘devil’ to devour NAPSA Stars 4-1 coming from a goal down much to the excitement of the Nkana faithful.
Striker Alex Ng’onga has found his form since making the switch from arch-rivals Powerful Power Dynamos and will again lead the charge for maximum points.
Prison Leopards are also in a similar situation since the departure of Mwenya Chipepo as they find themselves fighting relegation after promising a start to the season which saw them make a false start and flatter to deceive.
A loss for Prison Leopards may see them move even closer to the relegation zone and a win for Nkana will boost their quest for survival but only 90 minutes can decide this encounter.
