Zambia’s CAF Confederations Cup envoy Napsa Stars showed ubuntu after they assisted their Sunday’s opponents Coton Sport with training kit and balls.
The Cameroon side arrived in Lusaka for Sunday’s match day tie at Heroes Stadium without their equipment as it is still on transit.
While it is a known fact that it is generally hard to travel on the continent as away clubs are subjected to all sorts of mistreatment. This gesture puts Napsa Stars as one of the contenders for the FIFA Fair Play of the year award later this year.
Zambians will remember when Elijah Tana and Davies Phiri led Chipolopolo side suffered ill treatment in Benin in 2003.
The host fans splashed multi-coloured powder in addition to urinating on the Chipolopolo Boys.
And who would forget about the Chris Katongo captained 2012 African Cup of Nations winning team being made to train in the car park in Ghana in 2013.
In Europe, there’s actually a phrase which says ‘This is Africa’ in reference to the “silly mind games” on the continent.
Clearly this heartening act is a clear demonstration of the Zambian spirit.
Away from this ubuntu, Coton Sport will be hoping for their second victory over a Zambian soil this year.
This is the third time Coton Sport are in Zambia on CAF duty
In the 2017, the Cameroon side faced Zanaco but lost both legs including a 2-1 defeat at Heroes Stadium. Zanaco picked up 1-nil away win in the second leg.
In December 2020, the West African beat Green Eagles 2-0 in Lusaka before they completed their double with a 1-0 win over Aggrey Chiyangi’s men in January 2021.
It’s not the the fifth time cotton sport are visiting Zambia having ejected Zamsure Tamanga and GBFC previously with Fichite scoring a beauty at Independence Stadium in a one all draw and winning on the tie overall.
They usually have one guy in the midfield who doesn’t move from the anchoring point. Make him unhappy.
But iam just checking if Andrew Kamanga has resigned. Please Mr. Kamanga we have had enough of you. You are not a factor in why we play or support Zambian football. Just go. Resign. We cannot be watching the Africa Cup without Zambia at any stage. We have a character, agreeing to what you have turned our football into is not the one. No. Resign. It’s better for you to resign with the world cup qualifiers coming.
