Mwepu helps Salzburg to a thumping win as Patson sits out with injury

Zambian national team midfield prodigy Enock Mwepu was in action for Red Bull Salzburg when they thumped lower league side Wals-Grunau 13-1.

In what was the first practice match of the mid-season preparations.

Mwepu who has played 18 games for Salzburg’s feeder club Liefering scoring 6 times will be looking at finding a permanent place with the senior team having only featured once.

Salzburg played two different teams in each half of the practice match and the 20 year old was named in the starting XI.

He starred in midfield as his team cruised to a 4 – 1 lead at half-time though he missed out on the goal feast.

The second team was more ruthless as they scored nine goals in the second half.

Africa Youth Player of the Year Patson Daka did not feature in the match as he is nursing an ankle injury.

Salzburg play their next friendly match on Wednesday against Emmanuel Mayuka’s former club Young Boys of Switzerland.

The two Zambian lads returned to their base in Austria at the start of this week to join up with their team mates after the winter break.

The league resumes on 3rd February .
