Mwenya Chibwe rejoins ZESCO United

MTN Super League side ZESCO United have signed goalkeeper Mwenya Chibwe just a year after leaving ZESCO United.

Chibwe returns to Ndola after a season with Black Leopards in the South African second tier, the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The South African born goalminder has penned a two year deal with team Ya Ziko. He is the second goalkeeper unveiled by ZESCO United today after Nigerian Sochima Victor Ndukauba was unveiled earlier in the day

Chibwe was with Zega Mambo joined ZESCO for his first stint in 2022 after leaving Baroka before departure back to South Africa in 2024.

“Mwenya Chibwe is back at ZESCO United. The club is delighted to announce his return on a 2-year contract after a season with Black Leopards FC in South Africa.

Chibwe spent 2 seasons with ZESCO before heading out to South Africa, and we’re thrilled to have him back. His experience will add valuable depth to our goalkeeping department, and we’re looking forward to seeing him in action again. Welcome back home Mwenya.”

Chibwe was key for Black Leopards last season as they finished fourth, narrowly missing out on a promotion play-off spot by just a single point.

Leopards ended the season with 47 points—one behind Casric Stars, who secured third place with 48 points. Chibwe kept 9 cleansheets in 18 league games this season.

The 32-year-old Chibwe has previously also played for the likes of Platinum Stars, Jomo Cosmos and Polokwane City.
