Kennedy Mweene added another medal to his collection despite sitting on the bench for Mamelodi Sundowns when the African Chmpions edged TP Mazembe 1 – 0 with a late goal to win the the CAF Super Cup.
Chipolopolo captain Rainford Kalaba and Nathan Sinkala were both named in the starting XI for Mazembe but the lack of a game time on a team that has been on recess was evident as the Sundowns looked the better team.
The game was however short of goals until the 83rd minute when Brazilian Ricardo Nascimento netted from the spot to seal the win.
Kalaba was substituted in the 80th minute of the game.
Given Singuluma and Kabaso Chongo were unused substitutes in the game.
A soft penalty deny ‘The Ravens’ victory. “But they did not need any favours from the match officials to win the game after they were awarded a soft-soft penalty in the 82nd minute – a home-town decision of some sort – after Egyptian referee Gehad Grisha adjudged Hlompho Kekana to have been brought down in the box.
It was a dubious decision to say the least, but, in football, the referee’s decision is final.
Ricardo Nascimento did the rest from the spot kick to give Sundowns the lead – and the winning goal. ”
CAF should make amendments by ensuring that the Super Cup is played at neutral venue.
This was not fair at all – the winner should have been decided by playing home and away.
That penalty was dubious indeed but TP mazembe was outplayed by sundowns its high time mweene leaves that club because its not doing him any good at all
Chasing the Rand without due concern for your future career. He must be feeling contented by just warming the bench, after all he will be wearing the number 1 jersey back home. It’s time we start grooming goalkeepers so that he becomes serious.
It looks like he is cursed from being best in Africa down to be a regular bench warmer
@Vinkubala You spot on! Mweene looks to be content.
