Undisputed Chipolopolo Boys first choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene is expected to leave South African ABSA Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mweene, who was voted as the best goalkeeper in Africa has been relegated to being the third choice goalkeeper and has mostly watched games from the stands.
With his contract coming to end in June, the former Kitwe United shot stopper has been linked with a move back to Free State Stars as well as a Euro move.
In 2013, Mweene got an offer from an Israeli club but he opted to join Sundowns where he helped them to a league title and made over 25 appearances
Though Mweene has been inactivity at his club, Chipolopolo Boys interim coach George Lwandamina has stressed that he still remains as Zambia’s main goalkeeper despite Jacob Banda going for 390 minutes without conceding a goal from open play at the CHAN tournament in Rwanda.
Mweene’s compatriot Mukuka Mulenga who is still on the books of Sundowns is also expected to leave the Tshwane side.
Mukuka will also be a free agent in June and depending on how his loan move to Mpumalanga Blac Aces goes, he might make the move permanent or still join another PSL side as he is not short of suitors.
Yes guys join other clubs we still need you.
Time to move on guys, greener grass abounds elsewhere. The main objective is to remain active instead of warming benches.
They should move. We don’t need bench players. Zambia National team is a big team which needs only active players
mweene is clever last year he refused to extend his contract
This is a lesson to Zambian players. Don’t join Mamelodi Sundowns. I can’t believe that they have loaned very good players to other clubs. Why do they sign them? This is happening not only to Zambian players at Sundowns, but to many other African players there. I just hope that Kalengo’s AFC Leopards of Congo will eliminated Sundowns in the champions league.
eliminate
When you knock on their stadium gates and they don’t accept you, rub the dust from your football boots and move on to the next team.
Kennedy still has a lot of playing time. for a goal keeper, its usually after life begins in other aspects at 40 that you start counting your days.
God Bless Mweene and Mulenga.
If Sundowns play the same way they did against Chicken Inn of Zimbabwe then its difficult to see them progress in the Champions League. Anyway nifi bola ila chinja.
Kalengo shouldcome to Pretoria with a mentality to show them what Zambian players are capable of doing.
sundown is a useless team. let no zambian player shud join them
Eh, its about time. I’m glad Mweene didn’t extend his contract. That may actually be a contributing factor as to why Sundowns is not playing him, but it was the right choice in the long term.
P.s. can anyone name the players in the pictures and what game it was. I recognize Mweene, Chamanga, Jacob Mulenga, Joseph Musonda, Felix Katongo, amd Kalaba. Who is the guy with the captains armband and where was Chris Katongo.
…. and What year was it?
The one with the Captain’s armband is Clive Hachilenza I suppose.
