Chipolopolo veteran goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene yesterday missed his spot kick during a penalty shoot out to see his Mamelodi Sundowns team bow out of the MTN8 quarter-final via a 4 – 2 scoreline against Bloemfontein Celtic.
Mweene started in goal and played the entire game in a contest that was decided from the spot after Musa Bilankulu cancelled out new Sundowns signing Fiston Abdul Razak’s 105th minute opener at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Celtic slotted all of their penalties, while Asavela Mbekile and Mweene failed to do so for the Brazilians.
The Zambian shot stopper failed to convert a last minute spot kick when Zambia played Guinea Bissau to see the Chipolopolo draw the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mweene should take a break on taking spot kicks in my view. Lately he even fails to save penalties like he used to..I wonder why?
My thoughts as well.
It’s a passing phase. Kennedy Mweene is a seasoned professional that is just turning a corner. He will soon bounce back to his best. He has been there before. He should just remain focused!
When success starts going to the head the head starts losing it. Even though penalties are like lottery, our Mweene has become too casual when taking them. The lack of competition for his place in the Zambian team has made him too comfortable.
Fc platinum and zambian international speed winger obby chirwa has joined top danish club.. Good move by young talented player . I wonder why he is part of the under 23. The guy is above average ask them in zim they will tell you.. He will definitely add value in the under 23 team..
Very good news mudala…
Okay, no more penalty kicks for you Meeene ,your recent misses are bound to affect you psychologically.
We need someone else to step up instead.
@Tony Mash Hobro Ik were promoted in 2014/15, and not a big club but playing in the super league. They have a good scouting network in Zimbabwe thus how obby was signed. Anywhere we wish him luck and hope he succeeds
Too bad for Mweene. Toaster Nsabata will now throw him on the bench in chipolopolo squad.
I want ba FAZ to have a look @ Cyril Chibwe from platnum stars in SA. I’ll never stop campaigning for that boy. I was impressed when I watched him.
With the league kicking off this long weekend (PSL) I will pay special attention to this player and see if the hype around him is justified. I see even other PSL coaches have made mention of him. Lets see.
Mweene should not take penalty he is too slow when taking penalties he take penalties while walking, to my knowledge mayuka is a good penalty taker
I lost confidence in mweene when we lost to Ghana 2 1 that made us not to go to Brazil. He era ended in 2012. Let him be a goal keeper coach now finito!
Ba mweene refrain 4rm takin penalties they’ll erode yo confidence try nxt time bt not 4 now. Otherwise we still like u.
Too much & many misses , why? Logically one has to do ka self evaluation & find a root cause of trend which seemingly becoming constant consistent.anyway kulaloleshafye
Mweene is too casual when taking spot kicks, that is also my sentiments for him to take a leave.
As for Mukuka dnt see him playing at sundowns…that keagan Dolly kid is a marvel..
Mweene’s dip in form was due to his lack of game time at club level. I have seen him start playing more games of late. The coach’s comment when the club visited Zambia recently is also very encouraging. I hope this will make him up his game and performance. Otherwise in my opinion he is still the best there is South of the Equator
Mweene is still a good goalkeeper. But i feel he needs to take a break from taking penalties for a while. The last miss has affected his head.
