Newly appointed Zambia Women National team coach Beauty Mwamba has unveiled a final 20 member squad for the 2018 Cosafa Women Championship.
Mwamba has retained most of the squad that qualified Zambia to the Ghana 2018 Africa Cup of Nations finals when they beat Zimbabwe on away goals after a 2 – 2 aggregate scoreline over two legs.
The major changes are in the goalkeeping department where Maleta Muwindwa (Green Buffaloes) and Anne Namonje (Indeni) have been replaced by Catherine Musonda and Maleta Muwindwa while first choice goalkeeper Hazel Nali has maintained her position in the team.
Also missing is Lweendo Chisamu who is out with an injury.
Bruce Mwape qualified the Zambian ladies to the Ghana finals in June, but was replaced by Enala Phiri in August.
Phiri was fired this week in what was reported as dispute with the FAZ authorities concerning player allowances.
Mwamba was acting as assistant coach to Phiri, but must now ready the side for the COSAFA Women’s Championship that gets under way in South Africa’s Nelson Mandela Bay on Wednesday.
Zambia have been drawn in Group B along with continental heavyweights Cameroon, Lesotho and Mozambique.
The Shepolopolo open their campaign against Lesotho on Thursday.
Only the top team in each pool, as well as the best-placed runner-up, advances to the semifinals.
Zambia squad:
Goalkeepers: Catherine Musonda, Hazel Nali, Maleta Muwindwa
Defenders: Anita Mulenga, Margaret Belemu, Martha Tembo, Jackline Nkole, Lwendo Chisamu
Midfielders: Lushomo Mweemba, Mary Mambwe, Rabecca Nyirenda, Joana Benai, Misozi Zulu, Barbra Banda, Rhoda Chileshe, Hellen Nga’ndwe Chanda, Mary Mwakapila
Strikers: Racheal Kundananji, Theresa Chewe, Racheal Nachula
Ok this new coach looks presentable, but firing Enala was another FAZ error.
Pa FAZ pali ka problem.
