Mutapa: FC Leopards a Dangerous Opponent Ahead of Week 23 Clash

Green Eagles head coach Perry Mutapa says their Week 23 opponents FC Leopards will be a difficult side to face despite their struggles this season.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Mutapa described the encounter as a tough contest and warned that Leopards remain a dangerous team, especially as they fight to move away from the relegation zone.

“We are geared for the game. Yes, it’s a military derby. The last time we played them it was a game full of goals and we drew 2-2 at home, so this is going to be a different ball game,” Mutapa said.

“It’s a very dangerous team to play. Like you have said, they are in the relegation waters, so it’s not going to be easy. But for us, I think we have found that rhythm and we want to continue with that.”

Mutapa said while his side has recently been scoring freely, the focus now is on strengthening their defence.

“The most important thing we should do is close shop. In terms of scoring, recently we have done so well, so the most important thing now is to make sure we consolidate our defence,” he added.

The Eagles coach also confirmed that defender Bornface Sunzu will miss the match after sustaining an injury late in the previous game against Nchanga Rangers.

“From the Nchanga Rangers game, Sunzu got injured from the last kick of the match, so we are missing him. But we have found cover and that’s what a team should be made of. When someone is not okay or injured, we should find a replacement, which is good for the team,” Mutapa said.

Mutapa also called on supporters to turn up in numbers to rally behind the team.

“Our fans are always there for us. They should come in numbers and support the team so that we can pick up maximum points.”

He further thanked the club’s sponsors, Zambia National Service and ,Xtenda for their continued support.

“They are always there for us. They have made it possible for us to be in the position where we are and they should just continue supporting us.”

Green Eagles head into the match in good form, unbeaten in their last four games with three wins and one draw, and are aiming for a third consecutive victory.

Meanwhile, FC Leopards are winless in their last three matches.

Historically, the two sides have been closely matched. In their previous nine meetings, FC Leopards have won three games while Green Eagles have recorded four victories, with two matches ending in draws.
