MUBA AND THE OTHERS WHO HAVE PASSED MICHO’S BORSALINO TEST

In hindsight, the Kenya result is the only smudge on what could have been a perfect October for Micho and team. The comeback win against Southern Africa’s highest ranked side was arguably the biggest testament of what the man dubbed as the Serbian Wolf is trying to build. Bar the results and tactics, it was a chance for the players to work themselves in Micho’s grand plans.

Kelvin Kampamba was arguably the most productive of the cohort trying impress, but he wasn’t alone. In the absence of some fundamental pieces, some players have left Micho with decisions to make with back to back nations cup qualifiers coming up against Botswana next month.

Zachariah Chilongoshi

The new Power Dynamos signing started all the three games and could have had an assist against Malawi had Chabula been clinical when he reversed a goal kick bound ball only for the Nkwazi man to head wide. Though his attacking impetus does leave the team susceptible to counter attacks, Micho seems to fancy the rookie fullback who is coming off a fantastic season, at Kabwe Warriors.

Benson Sakala

Like Chilongoshi, “Americano” as he is fondly referred to was also a mainstay in the three friendlies. Though his pairing against Kapumbu inspired less confidence, Micho seems to value the versatility of the Power Dynamos midfielder who, by the early signs, looks to be a sure bet to make the CHAN squad.

Lubambo Musonda

He is another one who’s versatility makes him a valuable asset for Micho. After being on the fringes for the national team in the recent past, the Poland based winger wingback was outstanding in the two games and could have had a goal in both games had to be got his Midas touch on. After being starved of national team call ups in the past, the former Power Dynamos winger looked to have made an impression on the Serbian.

Sebastian Mwange

There is a dearth of good goalkeepers in Zambia, Mweene’s impasse with the FA, and technical means sooner or later the new first-choice goalkeepers have to be found. Mwange is currently looking like Micho’s preferred goal minder. The Green Eagles goalie was emerging as Zambia’s first choice before a lengthy injury halted his progress. Now, after successfully recovering from the injury, the 28-year-old seems to be tightening his grip on the spot as evidenced by his importance in the three friendlies.

Kondwani Chiboni, Chaniza Zulu, Leonard Mulenga, and a few others also accounted themselves very well but empirical evidence pits the aforementioned as the quintuple that passed Micho’s Borsalino test.
