Hosts Mozambique secured their place at the 2027 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations after reaching the COSAFA U20 Cup final with a 3-0 victory over Namibia in Maputo.
Martinho Começar opened the scoring for Mozambique before Diego Pelembe doubled the hosts’ advantage. Hissen Socrate then added a third to complete a convincing semi-final victory.
Mozambique will face South Africa in Sunday’s final, with both sides having secured qualification for the 2027 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
South Africa booked their place in the final after beating Zambia 4-2 in the other semi-final.
The result ended Zambia’s hopes of defending their regional crown under coach Perry Mutapa. The Young Chipolopolo had reached the semi-finals after topping Group C with victories over Malawi and Comoros before losing to the Amajita.
South Africa will now bid for a third consecutive COSAFA U20 Cup title and an 11th overall.
Zambia remain the most successful team in the competition’s history with a record 12 titles, but will have to wait for another opportunity to add to their tally.
