Most pitches are hard and bumpy in Zambia, says Zesco United goalkeeperĀ

South African born, Zesco United and Chipolopolo goalkeeper gives his review over his first three months in the Super League.

Chibwe joined Zesco United from Baroka Fc in the PSL. He had spells at Polokwane City, Jomo Cosmos and Platinum Stars prior to joining Baroka FC.

Chibwe believes his first three months in Zambia has been challenging due to the conditions of the pitches.

The ZESCO United goal minder also believes the Zambia Super League is not yet at the level of the PSL.

ā€œMoney is good in Zambia though football wise the standard may not be the same, don’t get me wrong it’s very competitive, ā€œ Chibwe told Kick off.

ā€œI think for me because I’ve been in South Africa all my life when it comes to grounds it’s a big factorā€

ā€œFootball wise is very competitive but for me, as a goalkeeper, there are few challenges when it comes to the pitches as I have to dive.

ā€œBut I have no choice, I just need to adapt and adjust, even though the pitches are a bit hard and bumpy. There are certain pitches which are just right, though most of them are bumpy and hard.

ā€œI think for them because they grew up there, they are used to everything you see, but for me, it’s different because I have been playing on the lawn since academy level.

ā€œSo, getting used to such conditions made some people think I was a cry baby. I struggled in the first three months before I started playing regularly but I’m getting used to it lately though it is still difficult.

ā€œAnd the media coverage is not as big as in South Africa, I think the only time games are live on television is when big teams are playing.

ā€œWhen games are taking place at National stadiums that’s when you can tell that there a lot of talent in Zambia compared to when we play at other stadiums.

ā€œIf all stadiums in the Super League has good grass and were not hard and bumpy, we would have compared the standard of football to the PSL /DSTV premiership. There is a lot of talent  in Zambia.
