PITSO Mosimane, coach for South African side Mamelodi Sundowns has described Zambia goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene as a competitor ready to fight and reclaim his number one position at the club.
Mweene has lost his first team place to Dennis Onyango of Uganda and Mosimane said there is stiff competition by the two international shot-stoppers.
“The competition is tough,” said Mosimane in Ndola when he brought his side for a training camp in Zambia.
“Sundowns’ is a very ambitious team and a very difficult team to keep your position. He [Mweene] is fighting and he has the experience and I think he will get his position back…he will fight back.”
Mosimane said the Chipolopolo goalkeeper helped the club win the league title in the 2013-14 season after joining from Free State Stars.
“Kennedy is the number one goalkeeper for Zambia, Kennedy helped us to win the league the year before last, and he has been part of the team and has helped us in the Nedbank Cup,” he said.
Mosimane also said the club may consider selling Zambian defender Hichani Himoonde who has struggled for a position since joining from Democratic Republic of Congo side TP Mazembe in 2014.
The defender also had a six-month loan at Zesco United last year.
Mosimane said apart from Himoonde not making the first team place, the Zambian status as a foreigner is another hurdle since Sundowns having already exhausted their five-player foreign quota as demanded by the Premier Soccer League regulations.

this is total madness u release a player who has never played for you. is like you marry a woman before you sleep with her you divorce her.moneylode signclown
Even at the height of his career, I’ve just never been convinced by Himoonde.
Screw this coach and his team. Its all talk, this guy is all about destroying Zambian players. Wasn’t this same idiot a coach for bafana? That explains it, so he should not be talking nonsense as if we kids. To hell Pitso.
I disagree with u coz H.H knew from the begining that he wasn’t good enough to fit in sundowns squard. Should have signed for smaller team. Now even the little talent he had has disapeared in his legs..
i agree with Tc Soccerman, Mosimane U Chiting The Nation Just Becoze U Are Here, Bt When De Ligue Starts U Wil Bench Mweene 4 Yo Throphless Denis Onyango Who Has Never Been 2 Afcon With His Useles Uganda.
dont even say the club may consider to sell himoonde, u hav 2 sell him becoz u are not using him.
On Hichani, I agree with Mosimane. To be honest Hichani has not proved his full potential apart from the defensive partnership he formed with Sunzu. I also was shocked to hear that he signed for Sundowns. He should have stayed in Congo or at least should have signed for another club in SA, or better still return to Zesco. Sundowns are a difficult club to play and you really have to prove that you’re an exceptional player for you to be in their plans. I am not worried about Mweene as he will reclaim his position. But I am more worried about Mukuka Mulenga who in my view should have asked for a permanent move with Bloem Celtics. Sundowns have many good players in Mukuka Mulenga’s position.
True billy sundowns have Teko Modise,Kuda mahachi, khama billiat,Ejike uzoenyi,Bongani zungu in Deco’s position…but I hear that sundowns n celtics are still in negotiations over another loan move or permanent one so all’s not lost…his very talented so im sure somethng will give
You’re right. Teko Modise,Kuda mahachi, khama billiat,Ejike uzoenyi,Bongani zungu are all very good players. So Deco better ask for permanent move to Bloem Celtics where he is at least assured of game time.
IF MUKUKA HAD NOT PICKED AN INJURY WHEN HE WAS ON PICK NONE OF ABOVEMENTIONED PLAYERS WOULD HAVE MATCH HIS CLASS. HE SHOULD JOIN A CLUB WHERE HE WILL BE GIVEN CHANCE TO SHOW CASE HIS TALENT.
I hope he gets back his number one position we cant have our number on national team goalkeeper warming the bench for the Ugandan keeper to play. Mweene should work hard and redeem our pride as Nation. For Hichani, I even wonder how he got to play abroad he not good enough even for our top teams in our ZPL but he is Zambian and I wish well still.
