With the 2015 Super League league season now at the halfway mark, Jimmy Ndhlovu and Winstone Kalengo lead the top scorers chart with 8 goals apiece.
However, the former Power Dynamos hit-man, Ndhlovu, will be statistically ahead of the consistent Zesco United veteran, Kalengo, as he has played less games.
A comparison of the score charts at the midway mark this season with the same stage last season shows a reduction in the number of goals scored and other statistics.
This season only three players that have scored 6 goals and above (Ndhlovu, Kalengo and Jackson Mwanza) while last season had 10 players who had scored 6 or more goals at the same stage with top scorers also on 8 goals. The top ten on the top scorers chart for the 2014 season after week 15 were; Elson Mkandawire 8, Ronald Kampamba 8, Jackson Mwanza 7, Moses Phiri 7, Bornwell Mwape 6, Matthews Macha 6, Peter Mwangani 6, Rodrick Kabwe 6, Evans Kangwa 6, Jimmy Ndhlovu 6.
A total number of 236 goals have been scored so far this season compared to 273 at the same point last season. The highest scoring team for both the 2014 and 2015 season remains Zanaco having scored 36 and 26 goals in the respective seasons at this stage.
Napsa Stars and National Assembly are the most porous defenses having leaked in 22 goals so far. Last season, the teams which had conceded more at the same stage were Konkola Mine Police and Nakambala Leopards who had conceded 26 goals.
Zesco United and Power Dynamos have the meanest defence in the league having only allowed 9 goals each in 15 games.
A total of 130 players have found the back of the net as compared to 140 last season.
Despite the total number of goals scored in each season showing a steady increase over the past few years; 2011 = 467 goals; 2012 = 472 goals; 2013 = 510 goals and 2014 = 533 goals, it does not look like the bar set last season will be beaten in 2015.
Is this a judgment on the quality of strikers we have in the league as having gone down?
