Mines United Appoints Christopher “Gazza” Tembo as Head Coach

Newly promoted MTN Super League side Mines United Football Club has announced the appointment of Christopher “Gazza” Tembo as its new head coach, ahead of its debut season in the MTN Super League. 

Tembo takes over from Geoffrey Hamakwenda, who parted ways with the club by mutual consent.

A Wealth of Experience

Coach Tembo brings a vast wealth of experience in the football fraternity, having recently served as Head Coach at Malanti Chiefs in Eswatini, where his team emerged as NFD champions of the 2024/2025 season. He has also worked as head coach at Manzini Sundowns in Swaziland. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to guide Mines United to success in its maiden season in the top-flight league .

Club Chairman’s Confidence

Club Chairman Mathew Mohan and CEO Michael Musonda expressed confidence that Coach Tembo’s leadership will bring glory and success to the club. Mohan, who has been instrumental in transforming Mines United, is optimistic about the team’s prospects in the Super League. 

The club has already made significant strides, including the formation of a Council of Elders comprising seasoned football personalities to guide the team.

Mines United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher ’Gaza` Tembo as the new head coach of the club. He takes over from Geoffrey Hamakwenda, who has mutually agreed to part ways with the club. 

The Club would like to thank Coach Hamakwenda for his service and massive contribution and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.

As a debut team in the ZPL Super League, We are confident that Coach Tambo’s experience and leadership will be key in guiding the team forward.

Coach Tembo brings with him vast wealth of experience in the football fraternity, having recently served as Head Coach at Malanti Chiefs in Eswatini , his team emerged as NFD champions of the 2024/2025 champions.

Furthermore he’s also worked as head coach at Manzini Sundowns in Swaziland.

Club Chairman Mathew Mohan and CEO Micheal Musonda were available during the unveiling of their new Head Coach, the duo is confident that the coming in of Coach Tembo will bring Glory and Success to the club.
