Milika Limwaya reflects on COSAFA outing

Copper queen’s midfielder Milika Limwanya says she was delighted when she was recalled to the Senior Women’s national team ahead of the recently concluded 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa.

The Red Arrows workaholic midfielder spent 1470 days away from the Copper Queens set up before taking to the field as the Zambia Women’s national team beat Eswatini 5-0 in their opening match of the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship on 30th September.

“I was very happy and thanked God because I was praying very hard to be called back in the team, in the past four years I have been working very much at my club so that I could be noticed by the coaches,” Limwanya told the ZamFoot Crew.

“The COSAFA Women’s Championship went well this year I believe everything has time and I was happy with the games I played.”

The Red Arrows midfielder scored the winning penalty in the bronze medal match against South Africa. Limwaya confirmed to the ZamFoot Crew that it has always been her wish to one day score a very important goal for the country.

“I have always been wishing that one day I should score the winning goal for Zambia, so when I scored that goal I was happy despite not celebrating because I did not believe that it was me but thanks to my teammates.”

Milika added that she is looking forward to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi and hopefully she would be part of the team.

“I will put more effort this time around so that am part of the team that will face Malawi and helps them, I would love to thank my mum, sisters, friends, and fans because without them I wouldn’t have been able to reach this far.”

The Copper Queens beat South Africa 4-3 on post-match penalties to clinch bronze and arrived back home on Sunday evening.

The team went straight into camp as they continue preparations for next week’s 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations first-round qualification tie against the Scorchers of Malawi.
