Saturday Football: Updates and Scores

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers will this weekend host Nkana FC as the two most successful side in Zambian football square up in Mufulira.

With both teams only separated by a point in 8th and 9th positions respectively, very little separates the two side in terms of form but Aggrey Chiyangi will know he will be under pressure to deliver a result from the demanding Nkana supporters.

Third placed Power Dynamos will host Nchanga Rangers who are in relegation waters and will be looking to start life under new captain Joshua TItima who was appointed to take over from Thomas Nyirenda who has left for Mozambique.

Elsewhere on the Copperbelt, the team with the best form so far Forest Rangers will look to make it five wins in five when they host 12th placed Green Eagles.

Forest could shot into second position with a win if other results go their way.

Second placed Nkwazi will be away at Green Buffaloes while Napsa Stars host Konkola Blades in a double header at Woodlands Stadium on Sunday.

  1. Zambian soccer standard very low. Nothing to write home about. We need to call our former soccer players like Johnson Bwalya, Stone Nyirenda, Charles Musonda and others with the European experience to coach at club level. We also need excellent administration at the Football House

  2. My childhood team legendary cup fighters Mighty i remember nelson haile banda, Allan kamwanga, alex musungu, abraham lungu, Paul Chella and Bilton musonda.

  3. Nabwela! Those fans who are fond of calling players they don’t like as “useless” what do you achieve when you despise your fellow human being like that?Isn’t there a better way of registering your displeasure towards selection of underperforming players to national team than calling someone useless?

  4. At least Renard has joined us that prefer young ones (some call them small boys) than the past their prime players-Dude and Patson Daka (most promising striker for me despite being despised left right and centre) as they take off for Lille. Most here were expecting otherwise, but I think the older guys from Cote if available like Gradel et al. are more refined than ours!

  5. The hyped up unveiling of a new foreign coach has been put on hold following disagreement between government and FAZ over payments terms.

FAZ has reportedly shopped for a Belgian coach to take over from interim coach George Lwandamina but last minute glitches are holding out the move.

Following the inconsistent results that have been coming from the Chipolopolo that led to the axing of Honour Janza as coach with his replacement George Lwandamina getting a rough take-off after a 0-all draw against Guinea Bissau in Ndola there has been an urge to get a foreign coach.

Sports Minister while open to the idea has set caveats after government was forced to pay former national team coach Dario Bonetti his K3.2 million compensation for unfair termination of contract in March.

Government offered to pay Bonetti on the understanding that FAZ will find money to pay the next coach and also sort out the outstanding contractual issues with another former Chipolopolo coach Patrice Beaumelle who left after months of working without pay.

With the new coach having been set to be unveiled today FAZ found themselves in a corner as they are banking on government who have not committed all the way given previous experiences.

FAZ has been using the Bonetti situation as a trump card saying the Italian was receiving part payments from FAZ but allegedly received his full payment in his separation package.

Sources within Football House told bolazambia.com that FAZ was in a precarious position and could not push too hard having messed up the Bonetti case.

“FAZ used to pay Mr Bonetti money bit by bit although there were those problems but when government paid him the FIFA it even included money he had already been paid. FAZ has been trying to reclaim what they paid him but it has been difficult that is why now they can’t even bring in the new coach,” said the source familiar with the development.

FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya had gone shopping around for an expatriate coach in countries where he played football and has reportedly settled for a Belgian.

Nkana are looking for a goal. There are attacking wave after wave

  9. There are waves and waves of attack by Nkana to clinch a goal. Maite’s draw-back to defensive and delay tactics are hindering a goal progression for Nkana

  11. Congrats to the winners of the day. I feel power is the team to look out for, according to the log standing, they have a few games in hand and if they are able to play their cards right, they can go to the summit of the table. I still don’t understand why Nchanga rangers,National assembly and Napsa haven’t yet found the winning formular, can someone tell me what they are not doing right?

  12. So far it looks like Nkwazi, Forest rangers and Mighty did their homework right and mean serious business this season and we may be headed for an intresting conclusion in the end.
