Mbole and Musele secured places in the next round of the FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament after a competitive second day in Kisasa on Saturday.
Mbole progressed after a 2–1 victory over Mukilawatambo, while Musele edged Kalumbila North 1–0 in the second round to join the teams that had already advanced from Friday’s opening day.
The day began with three first-round fixtures, two of which required extra time. Musele came through a closely contested encounter against Mbole, winning 1–0 after extra time through Emmanuel Katoka.
Kalumbila North also needed extra time to overcome Kambangala 2–1. Ernest Mukala put Kambangala ahead before Bernard Temesha scored twice for Kalumbila North to complete the comeback.
Kambangala finished the match with 10 players after their goalkeeper was sent off. In the other first-round fixture, Clement Kanselele scored the only goal as Mukilawatambo defeated Kankonzhi 1–0.
The second round then produced two more decisive matches. Mbole defeated Mukilawatambo 2–1, with Innocent Chomba scoring both goals for the winners. Warren Samalesu scored for Mukilawatambo.
Musele then secured their place in the next round with a 1–0 victory over Kalumbila North, with Jimmy Mukwakwa scoring the decisive goal.
The tournament continues on Sunday in Kisasa, with three first-round fixtures on the programme. Kambishi face Kachiwezhi, Malombo take on Kanzala, while Musanda meet defending primary champions Chitungu.
The FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament features 37 schools competing under the theme “A Kick for Safety”, with the finals scheduled for 17 October.
