Match Report: A win on the Road

By ZESCO United Media

ZESCO United’s short trip to Luanshya yielded dividends, with the team recording a 4-0 win over Roan United at Kafubu Stadium in a rescheduled Week Three encounter.

A Kennedy Musonda brace and a goal apiece from Anthony Shipanuka and Yves Allarabaye secured the victory for ZESCO, who picked up their first away win of the season.

As expected of a promoted side playing in front of their home fans, Roan United showed some intent in the opening exchanges, with their best chance coming inside the first 15 minutes.

In the 12th minute, striker Clifford Hamunkoyo raced past two defenders before shooting on target, but the crossbar came to ZESCO’s rescue before the defenders cleared the ball to safety.

Sensing danger, ZESCO responded by taming the home side, with Kennedy Musonda pouncing from close range in the 28th minute.

Leading up to the goal, Allan Mumba unleashed a long-range shot, only for Roan goalkeeper Bweupe Anatole to parry the ball into Musonda’s path. The striker made no mistake, calmly slotting it into the net.

Not satisfied with one goal, ZESCO launched another attack in the 41st minute, which resulted in Musonda being hacked down inside the box.

Referee Leonard Akapelwa had no choice but to point to the spot, awarding ZESCO a penalty.

Musonda stepped up and converted to double ZESCO’s lead, taking his season tally to four goals in five games.

In the second half, ZESCO continued to search for another goal, and it did not take long before they added a third.

This time, Shipanuka met a pass from Musonda in the 54th minute to extend ZESCO’s lead and silence the home fans.

With his side firmly in control, coach Mwenya Chipepo, who had his second-born daughter watching from the stands, turned to his bench, bringing on Gilbert Tentani for Abraham Siankombo, Yves Allarabaye for Rally Bwalya and Kelvin Kampamba for Luka Mutoshi.

Kampamba made an immediate impact, combining with fellow substitute Allarabaye to set up the latter for ZESCO’s fourth goal of the day.

The victory takes ZESCO to second place in Stream B with eight points, two behind leaders Green Eagles.

At full-time, Chipepo expressed satisfaction with the result.

“I am happy, to win away from home is not easy, we were playing a very determined side,” he said.

He added that he was pleased with the team’s improved goalscoring form.

The result means ZESCO have scored nine goals in their last two matches.
