Mashata, Mutale, and Mukeya lead Mutapa’s 28-member squad

Zambia U-23 national team head coach Oswald Mutapa has named a 28 member squad for the upcoming Morocco 2023 second round AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone.

Green Buffaloes wing wizard Golden Mashata and Power Dynamos midfielder Joshua Mutale lead the strong squad summoned by Mutapa.

Mutapa has also included ZESCO United duo of Kasoma Luwawa and Enock Sakala Jnr in his star studded provisional squad.

Other notable names include NAPSA Stars forward Jimmy Mukeya, 2021/2022 MTN Super League player of the season, Ricky Banda, Patrick Gondwe and Green Eagles defender Chikondi Njobvu.

The junior Chipolopolo will be away to Sierra Leone on the weekend of October 21-23 before hosting the junior Leone Stars on October 29 in Lusaka.

The team will enter residential camp on Sunday (October 9) with foreign based players expected to join in the final stages of preparation but however the qualifiers are not on FIFA dates hence some may not be available.

Winner between Zambia and Sierra Leone will face either Egypt or Eswatini in the final round.

The Morocco 2023 AFCON is a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Zambia was at the 2019 U23 AFCON in Egypt but suffered a first round elimination.
