Nkana fined, Poto and Chikwekwe banned

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has sanctioned Super League side Nkana for the violent conduct that followed Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Nchanga Rangers away in Chingola.

Nkana have been fined K100,000 with an additional K50,000 for the unidentified club official who took part in Saturday’s violence against referee Audrick Nkole.

This is contained in a statement by FAZ Communications manager Sydney Mungala which was availed to the ZamFoot Crew.

“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has sanctioned Nkana Football Club for the violent conduct that characterized the aftermath of Saturday’s Week Six MTN Super League match between the 13-time champions and Nchanga Rangers.

FAZ has also slapped bans on Nkana Football Club goalkeeper coach Mike Poto and skipper Diamond Chikwekwe for their part in the post-match chaos at Nchanga Stadium.”

FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala in an interview with FAZ media said the bans were in respect of the breach of Articles 49, 51 and 52 of the Disciplinary Code.

Kashala says the sanctions were aimed at sending a strong message to all teams in the FAZ administered leagues.

“The Disciplinary Committee has considered the Referees Report and Articles 49, 51 and 52 of the Football Association of Zambia Disciplinary Code and has come to the conclusion that (Respondent) Nkana FC concurrently with (Respondent) Player Diamond Chikwekwe, (Respondent) coach Mike Poto and an unidentified aggressor (hence Nkana FC) are guilty as charged,” reads part of the verdict.

“The Respondent Nkana FC is found guilty as charged in accordance with Article 52 for their general conduct after the match in accosting the Centre Match Official Audrick Nkole. Nkana FC is accordingly charged K100, 000 for this malfeasance. This sanction is to be settled within 7 days from receipt of the ruling by Nkana.”

Goalkeeper coach Mike Poto has been served a six months ban for punching referee Audrick  Nkole in the stomach while skipper Diamond Chikwekwe gets a four-match ban.

Meanwhile FAZ is yet to receive a verdict from the ongoing disciplinary proceedings against Nchanga Rangers for failure to provide adequate security.

Nkana has the right to appeal within 72 hours in respect of Articles, 119, 1,20, and 121 of the Disciplinary Code.
