MaFasho: It would be a dream to qualify for the World Cup

Zambia forward Fashion Sakala is relishing the chance of helping the Copper Bullets qualify for a maiden FIFA World Cup.

Speaking ahead of Friday night’s FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier against Congo in Ndola, Sakala is hopeful that Zambia will qualify for the finals in America.

“I think this [qualifying for the World Cup] is a dream that almost every Zambian wants to see and I am very confident that the team is prepared,” the Saudi Arabia based forward said.

While Zambia Under-20 has been to the World Cup twice [2007 and 2017], the Chipolopolo Boys are yet to make an appearance.

This year, the Zambian Women’s national team also featured at the World Cup in New Zealand/Austria.

“We are ready to fight for the points. We will keep fighting and hopefully, we will qualify for the first time,” he added.

Zambia and Congo Brazzaville face off at 18h00 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

With 40 African sides vying for just nine direct World Cup spots, plus one inter-confederation playoff place, the stakes are enormous from the outset.

Zambia is in the group with favourites Morocco, Tanzania and Niger.
