Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach Herve Renard has been sacked as manager of French Ligue 1 football club Lille, less than six months after being appointed.
“LOSC announce the decision to amicably end its collaboration with Herve Renard. Herve Renard is therefore no longer the coach of LOSC,” read a statement on the club’s website on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old Frenchman, who led the Ivory Coast to Cup of Nations glory in February, was only appointed in May following the departure of Rene Girard but leaves with 2011 double winners Lille in 16th place in Ligue 1
They have won just twice, and scored a paltry seven goals, in the league this season and sit only one point clear of the relegation zone.
His last game at the helm was a 1-1 draw with Bastia last weekend.
Renard rose to prominence as coach of the Zambia team who won the 2012 Cup of Nations in Gabon and repeated the feat with the Ivory Coast in Equatorial Guinea after failing to save Sochaux from relegation in 2014 in a first stint in Ligue 1.
His assistant Patrick Collot will take charge of the team while Lille search for a permanent replace
Back to Africa HR? Lwandamina needs an assotant! Just joking. I wonder what happens to Sunzu. He should continue, he should prove himself.
Sunzu is on loan and has thus played and served Lille well…HR on the other hand loves to run where the money is and no doubt some African country will be desperate to have him…He plays defensive football, his style of play doesnt benefit a league structure. I wish him well…JOHN WILL HAVE A FEST!
Maybe so that he doesn’t suit league structure. But i will say that he has not had a proper chance. He never stayed more than one full season with a team. There was allot of expectation at lille. i don’t think he can be judged on that.
HR likes it exciting, he likes adventure, that has been his last decade, sometimes maybe there is no patience. Not everything you will touch turns to gold, he must invest time to see success sometimes.
He is defensive and that is why he will always have problems as a league coach where the turn over of games is rapid and points are important over a long period of time…ambitious teams will never appreciate 7 draws, 2 wins, and 4 loses…DEFENSIVE, afraid to venture out!
Too bad for him. He should stick to Africa as thats where his tactics seem to work well. I don’t think he is cut out for European dream. Come back home Renard the continent is waiting. Unfortunately mu Zambia the boma is broke. LoL
HR should just come back to Africa, perhaps coach a big side like Ghana and try to win the 2017 AFCON.
He’s next target will be Ghana, Senegal or Guinea..Wait and see.
GHANA WILL NEVER EMPLOY RENARD TO THE BLACK STARS..
GHANA KNOWS THAT HE ( RENARD ) IS STILL NOT A REAL
COACH…HE WAS A PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER FOR THE
BLACK STARS.
MAY BE LIKE YU SAID ,, SENEGAL OR GUINEA WILL DEMAND
HIS SERVICES..
HR is a big time fluke those of us who understand football know this guy is just a lucky character. Zambia and ivory Coast are big African teams that made this simple chap look good. Hr took over a well oiled machine in 2011. Bonetti managed to make zambia the second highest scoring team in africa when he qualified them to afcon 2012. The Chris katongo led team was bound to win afcon. HR came and found a team it was the same with ivory Coast. At lille the guy had so much resources but because of incompetence failed to sharpen his attack. He is a big fluke and this is not the first time he has been fired in europe last time it was at Cambridge.
We don’t need your pathetic opinion. Stick with them and probably just expose them in the dentistry, and not on this forum.
herve was just a chancer. he won afcon with zambia by destiny. any1 wud hav won that afcon, same as with ivorycoast. herve wont get a job now hes been exposed as a failure.
iwe freemason jst like your leader. herve will soon find a new job and shame you for the third time
Come and win the 2017 AFCON with South Africa. It will be a record (Hatrick with 3 different teams).
Let him ( HR ) dry ghanas tears by helping them win the 2017 edition, but I doubt if they’ll let Avram Grant go.
This guy will make us sick if he coaches every team in africa. hahaha
I like what @Prince has analysed HR. HR’s style of play does not favour a league structure indeed. Playing week in week out is not his speciality. HR is a kind of coach who need time with players. Maybe he should have been given time with the team even the whole year to build the team. It’s unfortunate he has been sacked. I hope Sunzu won’t be affected by that and hope Lille signs him on permanent basis after this loan.
Sunzu has done well thus far and is good enough to be in that team. We pray he keeps it up and grows more and more as a player. We need more players at such clubs in Europe and thanks to Herve for bringing him there.
It was long overdue,Herve is not a coach who is boring. He is a versatile, existing and very good at forging player coach ties just like Buselic.Lille is an ambitious club, full of dreams but even with the new replacement I see them end mid table.Maybe they should try Moyes.
So people here are trying to find excuses for this chaps failure even giving theories like he can’t play week in week out. You’re wasting your time this guy is just a fluke.
You’re the one who is a fluke and a failure. You deserve the title of “The most useless and pathetic blogger”. Nonsense!
My money Billy, Zambia won with 1 nil like predicted though Luchanga was not the one who thought would score.
just admit that herve is a failure and has been exposed. if he siuts africa why did he fail in angola? herve is not winning any more fluke afcons his carreer is done
I think HR has just failed at club football. He is always getting fired.
There you go… When we say that Herve Renard is PATHETIC AND USELESS, we are called names and insulted. The man is a chancer!!!!
Kay hummer were you not humbled from your wrong again comments from before the sudan game? Quiet but you are back again when you hear HR name.
@Billy where is my money? We had bet zali zali, deposit in shoprite please
Lol. Give me you banking details bro. Kikikikiki!!!!
I can’t deposit in Shoprite as I am based in South Africa. Or do you mean Shoprite South Africa?
We know some chaps like john & kay hammer are frustrated with HR over Mampi, but it was her who prefered a white d!ck and dumped john the elder bro to k hamer. Renard is needed in Zambia since we are struggling with a coach.
Kikikikikikik awe namwe ba Mumbi, may be Bemuda his assistant is better than HR
I see Bafana bafana salivating at this news. If Shakes Mashaba does not beat Angola to get through to the next round of WC qualifiers he can consider himself a former Bafana bafana coach and it will be an open ticket for HR.
I don’t particularly see BB as a good destination for HR owing to the massive egos of the players in SA. The fact that players don’t see any value of playing in the National team and SAFA and the PSL don’t seem to have any teeth on the matter will be a huge problem for a hands on coach like HR.
We don’t need rena in zambia. when he was in charge, we used to struggle against small teams. He shud try southafrica
@ Big steve Zambia and Ivory coast are giants of African soccer. The current bafana team is not like it was in the 90’s when it was strong. HR will also fail with bafana. SAFA will fire him very quickly he will be exposed as current bafana does not have the caliber of players Zambia and Ivory coast have.
Zambia is a big team it was by no fluke the players won afcon. If you look currently Zambian players abroad are contributing positively to their teams. Just recently Kalaba destroyed USM Alger and Mazembe won the CAF champions league bafana does not have that quality. Renard wont survive.
I have to totally disagree with you. Just look at what South African players are doing abroad, they are doing far much better than the Zambian players abroad. Just to bring you up to speed with what a few are doing
Jali is a first team player in Belgium, Dareen Keet has been a first team goal keeper in Belgium for over two seasons now, Mandla Masango has just gone to Denmark and is already established himself in the first team, Mokotjo at FC twente is also scoring goals in the Dutch top league, Thulani Serero is a champions league player Tokelo Rantji has just played his first game in the EPL and did well. Truth be told when we speak of foreign impact South Africa is far ahead of us just like West Africa is far ahead of us.
We basically only have Sunzu and Chisamba in leagues worth taking note of. That’s just two players. The rest are in developmental leagues like Isreal.
That’s not to say Bafana have better quality but they can also argue that they have better quality based on their foreign impact as compared to Zambia.
Like Zambia what South Africa lacks is a coach. BB need a coach who is strong enough to deal with the overpaid, over hyped and larger than life player egos.
man change your citizenship to SA. Sa is a weak devoid of talent and may be massacred by angola today. they wont even qualify for afcon 2017.
Lol im just a practical guy I don’t make statements using emotion, I always use my head. I look at the facts before making a statement. If I ask you to justify your statement you will simply have no answer whatsoever or worse still say something devoid of fact as is the case with 95% of your analysis here on Zamfoot. If that’s the angle you are taking then why has Bafana been to multiple world cups and Zambia not even one….from that very narrow angle who then is devoid of talent? do you see why you must think a statement through before you make it. I love Zambia way too much to change anything my man. I just like arguing on a fact base sense rather than an emotional baseless one.
Big Steve I agree with I have talking to john to think logically not like an egoist who only thinks his perceptions are always right….I totally agree with you over BB they are as at now technically and tactically better than us only apart from the natural skill (talent) we have in abundance but alas we don’t have the necessary capacity to propel it to full impact. Look at our players talented but they fail to shine.
..SORRY FOR THE SYNTAX ERRORS..
Big Steve I agree with you I have talking to john on this blog to think logically not like an egoist who only thinks his perceptions are always right….I totally agree with you over BB they are as at now technically and tactically better than us only apart from the natural skill (talent) we have in abundance but alas we don’t have the necessary capacity to propel it to full impact. SA and Engi are the same. Good league and players but national team is a problem.
Herve Renard does not have the intellectual capacity to coach in europe. The stage is too big for him. The man is devoid of ideas and relies on luck.
HERVE RENARD is a PATHETIC coach. I have said this on this blog and i will continue to say it. The Afcon trophy were won in 2012 was not surprising. We were talking about a team that had been playing together for close to 10 years. They had chemistry and charisma. It was written in the stars that Zambia was going to win the AFCON in 2012!!!
HERVE REANRD IS A CHANCER! To those who are dreaming of him coming back to coach Zambia should wake up from their slumber. We don’t need him here. His time here has passed!
ba john and kay hammer what do you gain by calling somebody a chancer who is busy making money winning some losing some? by the way who is better a chancer or non chancer and win nothing like bob williams, bonet, avram grant etc? i thinnk your thinking is very low. good coaches always try to chance look at what is happening with jose M
I see your thinking and analysis is very shallow and twisted. HERVE RENARD is a failure. Get that. He is not welcome here like i have said. You can not compare pathetic Herve Renard to those coaches you have mentioned!
Guys give the man a break, he’s the only coach who stands tall amongst all the coaches in Zed football ….even a grade 5 student knows y.
Lol this john is a clown though,a very big clown…is Zambia a big team?lol we are nowhere to b called giants of africa.we as usless…as for you john, billy is right u are really a pathetic blogger..ur analysis on john n african footy are bad
You are right,I almost collapse when I see comments like Zambia been a Giant in football, really shocking we are not yet there though on a good day it can beat any team in any continent! There is still a lot of work to be done. Being a giant in football you can’t fake it, its something that shows by results and organization!
Do you really know the statistics of Zambia in Soccer? if you knew you couldn’t pass such kind of sweeping comments over Zambia! Zambia is a great footballing nation listen to international acclaimed commentators when they are talking about Chipolopolo. Even bigger teams than Chipolopolo sometimes loose to smaller teams, remember Cameroon went down as far as not qualifying for the AFCON please stop wikalandapo ifi nakabili Zambia is a giant footballing nation.
Zambia can have impressive statistics, but how do those statistics measure up with the records of other footballing Giants like Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon! in all honesty are you saying we equal their records?
All African teams that either won afcon or competed well at the world cup in the modern era are giants of african football period. Togo and angola are not giants despite going to the world cup they failed.
Zambia is not a big team, not at the moment truth be told. Sitting below top ten in Africa in itself is proof enough. No big team does such an amount of seesaw on the FIFA log as Zambia does. Big teams have consistency, have notable African players etc. Our biggest export Sunzu is hardly a house hold name outside of Zambia, Mayuka at a point just when Africa started taking notice goes on a consistent flop run and it continues now even in ligue2. We fall short of what defines a team to be called a big team.
The only box we have ticked in this regard is our consistency when it comes to Africa cup qualification otherwise there is nothing else truth be told.
You think winning a continental trophy on a continent of 54 nations in the last 20 years is a joke. only a giant can do it.
On that john I agree with you, no Southern African team sends shivers to West African teams even North African teams when they have it as their opponent. Zambia almost beaten every West African, North African and the rest of all African teams to me that is a record worth of being called a GIANT in Soccer.
On that john I agree with you, no Southern African team sends shivers to West African teams even North African teams when they have it as their opponent. Zambia has almost beaten every West African, North African and the rest of all African teams to me that is a record worth of being called a GIANT in Soccer.
Those who think Zambia is not a giant on the African football should be out of their minds; people (MERRICK) when did you start watching football for you to say Zambia is not a giant???? Your head/s surely needs some serious examination. Winning the AFCON trophy and playing in the AFCON final four times (twice against Zaire now Congo DR in 1974) is no mean achievement!!!!
One final played over two legs is still one final….don’t try to decorate it by calling it two finals. Zambia has played in three Afcon finals winning one.
With regards to the whole big team issue lets argue in a practical thought attached way not on an emotional rant that makes no sense at all.
What defines a big team. For me here is a small break down of boxes to tick
1. Afcon appearances
2. Afcon tournament success levels including wins
3. World cup appreances
4. Player impact on the continent
5. Player impact on the world stage
6. Consistency on FIFA ratings
With these six things teams like Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana tick all six boxes. Teams like South Africa and Mali tick four of the six hence fall out of big teams.
Teams like DRC, Tunisia, Angola also tick four of the six hence also fall away from big team status.
Our beloved Zambia ticks only 3 of the boxes.
Do you see were I’m going with this? I love Zambia with all my heart, I was one of the very few who confidently said we were going to beat Sudan when the likes of you gave us no chance.
Let’s not always use emotions but look at the facts. Zambia is strong, very strong no doubt, but if we are to categorise great Teams on the continent we are still on the fringe of that title. Lets not believe we have arrived when we still have some distance to go.
Well said Steve. Thats how you qualify your statement with facts. Sense!!!!
Well said; Being a giant in football you can’t fake it, it’s something that shows by results and organization! The guys live in deception, they selectively choose posts that conveniently suit them and smear them as bases to categorize Zambia as football Giant. To someone who is a newbie in football will think Zambia is Germany and Fwayo Tembo is another name for Cristiano Ronaldo here on Zamfoot.
Chief, ZAMBIA is a giant on the African football. Record has it that we played in four Afcon finals. I don’t care weather it was played over two or three legs. You have itemized what defines a big team.
If i look at your first point; we automatically fall into that category. We have been to 17 Afcon appearances as far as i know and only missed out of one or two. I may be right to say that we are currently a sleeping GIANT considering our CAF and FIFA rankings at the moment.
I am a die hard Chipolopolo soccer supporter and analyst. I call a spade a spade and not a big spoon. We can be better team if only we had well qualified administrators running our football. It’s so so unfortunate that is not the case at the moment. Our football is being mishandled/Mismanaged.
For me i feel at our level; we should have won the AFCON at least three times by now considering the type/calibre of players that we have produced in more than 50 years!
I said before the match that we were going to beat Sudan considering their current form and the cabre of the players they have at the moment who seem old and tired.
Kay Hummer my brother be fair to yourself and your Nation please; if you have accepted that Zambia qualify on position 1 and 2 as stated by Big Steve and you disregard 3,4,5 and 6 meanwhile there are other teams in Africa that meet all levels. How then do we become equal with them?
Classifying a team on intangibles would always be subjective. If we did that even Egypty, with its current form, failing to make it to AFCON on consecutive time, Nigeria, failing to defend their title by not qualifying would not make that subjective grade. However, you would be insane to talk of Big Teams by excluding Egypt, Nigeria and or Cameroon. Having said that, there is what is called the All Time Table when it come to the AFCON. The table lists the 38 teams that have qualified to the AFCON and participated there. Zambia is number five on this table. They have participated at the finals 17 times, only Egypt, Ghana and Ivory Coast have made more appearances, but at par with Cameroon, Nigeria, DR Congo and Tunisia. At the finals, Zambia has played 67 games, only Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Cameroon have played more. In the games played, Zambia has scored 81 goals, only the other giants-Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon and Ivory Coast have scored more gaols, and have a goal difference of +12, only the same teams have a better goal diference. Overall, Zambia is ranked 5th out of the 38 teams, only Egypt is better from North Africa, only Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Caost are better from West Africa and cameroom from Central Africa. What more credentials doe a team need to have to be called a giant that on real results. Besides that, the other to five teams started participatiing in AFCON much earlier-Egypt, Ghana and Ethiopia where exchanging the AFCON trophies between 1959 and 1968 and remember that Zambia only first appeared at the AFCON finals in 1974 with immediate impact, losing only to Congo DR in a final -greatest Final played twice!!!!!
In terms of individual player accollades, only 15 players have scored hat tricks at the AFCON Finals, and Zambia contributes two players to this list(Bernad Chanda-1974 Semi Final game, and Kalusha Bwalya 1996), only Egypt has 4 on this list.
The issue of players in top league doesnt hold. If that was the case, Spain, Neatherland or Belgium should have been the top team at the last World Cup considering their contributions of top players in the best teams of the top leagues. In 2002, France boasted in its rank of top scorers in the English, Italian and Bundasliga-but were eliminated in the first round without recording a single goal!!!!But on paper, they should have been the best team!!!! You judge a team based on their tangible achievements, not the subjective appeals they give us.
Therefore, unless you have a better criteria, in Africa, Egypt is the best team, followed by Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and ofcause ZAMBIA!!!!If if you are a Zambian critic, that is the harsh reality you have to fathom!!!!!!.
Zagwa; You are a great analyst. I wish we had more people like you on this blog!
Who has never failed at some point in life.H.R is not perfect as you are.
Big Steve thus some good guidelines out there. I don’t think HR is a bad manager at all. HR is great but his abilities has been in winning key games by grinding results. You can all agree with me that Ivory Coast grinded results throught the AFCON. But Renard won the last game. He identified Ghana was more fluid than the Ivorians so all what he could do was to win it or send it to the lottery. You cant do that in a league format. You cant be holding on to results. You would have to win outright but HR is not that type. He is a psycho that get results with the minds of his players but he is not totally good with intelligent and tactical outfield play.
I have a zambian mother and have lives in RSA for all my life and tell you what john n kay hummer..RSA has won afcon before and went to 3 wrld cups but you should see how we/they slam Bafana players…they associate bafana with teams like botswana, chad n lesotho..they dont praise mediocrity like you guys are doing
Guys can you please stop defending this coach. He has been badly exposed. There is nothing like he’s a coach of national teams. This man was fired by Angola don’t forget. Renard rides on luck and quality players. His intellectual capacity is small and thus he failed at lille.
@ merrick bafana hosted 1 world cup and the only afcon it won it hosted. Bafana can never win afcon in a hostile environment outside their country! The current team of bafana is weak and cannot match chipololpolo that is why they get beaten by Mauritania and the like.
Even if HR had won Ligue 1 from Lillie people like John were going to say, he is a bad coach. Lets be fair, the teams he has coached are also struggling teams. Why did top coaches fail with Ivory Coast then until he came? And why did he win with Zambia? And why has Zambia gone backwards since he left?
HR is a coach but is not a good coach. When you analysis his tactics you can conclude that is not a good coach. His first tournament in Angola and his second tournament. You will find that he was making a lot of mistakes and he cannot read a game. “Chicken is better than him”
chai,i dont know what you zambians are looking from herve rehnard..he won afcon with you and you sacked him.he signed two zambian players in europe and you were rejoicing, yet you were praying for his dpwnfall..most of you even wish he will never succeed again..what has herve done to you?
Kumasi…..
the return of ghanaboy to zamfoot
Lol !!..THAT DUDE IS BACK HEHEHEHEHE..
Baby hummer is back.
yes baby hummer is back and has brot with him his young brother abram. together with their leader john, they have made serious noise lately
Kekekekekekeke.–I DIDNT KNOW THAT ABRAM IS
ERRM-ABRAM IS HIS BROTHA..
uganda has beaten togo away 1:0 this team is ever strong i wonder y they always fail to qualify
Iwe paradox Uganda are still in the egg waiting to hatch….ala you need to avail yourselves to real footballing nations with impact in the African continent.
mind the way u comment. dont make me jump on you
sudan wil com like an angry Lion, watch out!!
they wil take this game as final, 4 them to progress to de next round.
Zambia 1-2 Sudan , #Minnows must fall
Guys can u be serious Sudan cannot beat zambia. Sudan is nowhere in the class of zambia. They will be butchered in ndola. Zambia has a very strong team what lwandimina must do is just make fair and objective team selection.
despite failing to qualify to the world cup zambia are the giants in african football.they were highly rated in 1988 when they registered on world football map and they were the first african to reach the quarter finals at the olimpiques.they beat Italy four nil.going to the world cup does not mean you are giants. its an opportunity. togo and angola they were there but they are not rated above zambia.in africa zambia achieved more than south africa. they need hundred years to match zambia

And of all the participations, Zambia is the only top-team that has had to qualify for each of the tournament because they have never hosted the AFCON, that actually makes Zambia’s record more remarkable. Egypt and Ghana have hosted the AFCON 4 times each, Nigeria twice, Cameroon and Ivory Coast once, Zambia 0 but checkout their consistent participation!!!!!GIANT FO SURE!!!!!Maybe our current form is not so good, but like all other teams, its global!!!!
Perhaps some critics of HR, try to take it out on him for his attempt to belittle Zambia’s stature!!!HR is on record as having said it was purely on his engenuity that Zambia reached the levels it did because of him!!!That is debatable, from the records, you can tell that it was just a matter of time, like all other big teams, its really not so much about the final trophy – Ghana hassnt triumphed for 33 years, but Ghana is really good and it is a top team because overall, it produces positive results. You put Ghana in any group you know it will come 1st or 2nd, and I think the same can be said about Zambia, except for a few times!!!!!
Well said Zagwa; brilliant analysis!!!!
Well qualified noted!
Zagwa has hammered the nail on the head. Zambia is a giant of African football. You cannot win afcon unless you are a giant. The issue of having top players in europe leagues is Nonsence. Egypt rarely produces top players in those leagues yet is feared in africa as a giant.
@John; ZAGWA is a great analyst. I wish we had more people like him on this blog!
We have very shallow minded individuals on this blog who think that Zambia is a minnow. ZAMBIA IS A GIANT FOOTBALLING nation on the African continent. Please get that. We are talking about a team that has played in four AFCON finals and has won one.
For a footballing giant that we are; we should have at least won three Afcon titles by now. I heard some analysts last night saying that it is so strange that Zambia has NEVER played at the world cup before.
We have won countless COSAFA cup trophies both at senior and under 20 levels.
We have also won the Nelson Mandela challenge cup and CECAFA trophies.
We are talking about a team that has played at 17 AFCON tournaments and only missed one or two. People Zambia is a giant.
CHIPOLOPOLO ARE A GIANT ON THE AFRICAN continent!!!
Most bloggers have brought out the criterias on whether Chipolopolo should be considered as a giant. In the first place why are we having such a conversation? What is critical is for us to do a root cause analysis and I have come to conclude that what is causing this debate can be attributed to Zambias inconsistencies. And why these inconsistencies;
1. Administrative issues-check out travel arrangement
2. Local league not competitive enough-No much incentives and infrastructures in place
3. No grassroot football-No academies
4. Our players lack discipline
I wont be drawn in the debate of whether we are giants or not. But one thing for sure is that every team goes through a cycle. A good example is Egypt.
Additionally, Zambia should atleast qualify to the world cup at which ever level.
Hello guys. Kay Hummer, Paradox and Chipolopolo Bullet nice to see that you are still contributing. I think you guys deserve some medals from Zamfoot for being consistent on zamfoot
were do u want me to go????
let someone tell me of an african coach who has won two afcon titles with two different national teams so will you say hassan shehata is a flop after winning three afcon titles with egypt and failed to win the egyptian league with zamalek is a flop you just hate harve renard leave the man alone infact he is famous and has more money than you his haters leave him alone for he is a zambian like iam , period south africa has been qualifying to tournament lately on default as hosts you can not count that tell of a player from SA who has scored more than mbesuma in a season , non they have not produced an african footballer of the year infact south of the equator kalusha is the only one with such an achievement ,stop ranting that is why carlos alberto pereira left SA BCOZ OF NO TALENT IN THE COUNTRY AND WE BEAT YOU AT YOUR BACK YARD 3 -1 WHEN KATONGO SCORED A HATRICK IN 20 MINS , JST SHUT UP .
