Leicester City confirm Patson Daka departure after five seasons

Chipolopolo Boys forward Patson Daka will leave Leicester City this summer when his contract expires, the club has confirmed.

The 27-year-old is among 10 senior players set to depart King Power Stadium following a difficult campaign which ended with Leicester’s relegation from the Championship to League One.

Club captain Ricardo Pereira is also leaving after eight seasons with the Foxes. The Portugal international made 220 appearances and played a key role in Leicester’s triumphs in the 2021 FA Cup and Community Shield.

Ghana forward Jordan Ayew, defender Jamaal Lascelles and academy graduate Wanya Marçal will also depart when their contracts expire.

Goalkeeper Asmir Begović remains in talks with the club over a possible extension.

Leicester also confirmed the end of the loan spells of Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey, Joe Aribo, Dujuan Richards and Divine Mukasa, who will all return to their parent clubs.

“We would like to thank all players who are leaving us for their contributions during their time on Filbert Way and wish them the very best for the future,” Leicester said in a statement.

Daka joined Leicester from FC Red Bull Salzburg in 2021 in a deal reportedly worth €30 million, then a record transfer fee involving a Zambian player.

During his five-year spell in England, the Chipolopolo striker scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists in 166 appearances across all competitions. He was also part of the squad that lifted the FA Community Shield and became Leicester’s leading scorer in European competitions.

Interest in Daka is understood to be growing ahead of the summer transfer window, with Spanish clubs Sevilla FC and Valencia CF among the sides linked with the striker.
