Legendary Sunzu to appear at 6th AFC0N

Legendary Zambia defender Stopilla Sunzu will be appearing at the African Cup of Nations for the 6th time.

The 35 year old played at his first African Cup of Nations in 2010.

The then 21 year old partnered Kampamba ‘Modibo’ Chintu at the heart of defence as Zambia reached the quarter finals in Angola.

Two year later, the Chililabombwe born formed a twin tower partnership with Hichani Himoonde to help Zambia to a historic AFCON triumph in Gabon.

His third and fourth AFCONs came in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

Zambia failed to qualify to the knock out stages on both occasions.

After being in semi retirement, Sunzu was recalled to the national team fold last year and helped the team qualify to the AFCON after an 8 year absence.

He played in all the three matches in Ivory Coast earlier this year, and again Zambia failed to advance to the last 16.

On Friday, the Far East based defender gave a collosal performance at the heart of the defence alongside Kabaso Chongo to help Zambia to a 1-0 victory over Ivory Coast.

The tournament in Morocco in December 2025 will be his sixth AFCON.
