Konkola Blades Queens have lodged a formal complaint with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) over the departure of head coach Enala Phiri, seeking compensation and disciplinary action against Green Eagles Women.
The Chililabombwe-based club says Phiri resigned on 2 September, citing personal and family reasons, but argues that her resignation did not comply with the termination procedures contained in her contract.
Phiri joined Konkola Blades Queens in June 2025 on a three-year contract that runs until July 2028.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the club said it respected the circumstances surrounding Phiri’s resignation but disputed the manner in which she ended the contract.
“While the Club respects her circumstances, the resignation did not comply with the contractual provisions and procedures governing termination,” Konkola Blades Queens said.
“The contract requires an agreed process for either party to bring the relationship to an end.”
The dispute comes after reports that Phiri was set to become the new head coach of Green Eagles Women following the departure of Albert Mphande.
The ZamFoot Crew reported on 2 September that Phiri was expected to take charge of the Zambia National Service-backed side after Mphande’s contract was terminated on 28 August.
Phiri was later seen training with Green Eagles Women on 16 September, according to Konkola Blades Queens.
The club says this happened before FAZ clearance and has included the matter in its formal complaint.
“Ms. Phiri was publicly seen training with Green Eagles Women FC on 16 September 2026, prior to FAZ clearance,” the club said.
Konkola Blades Queens allege that the conduct constitutes violations of FAZ regulations, FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) and the FAZ Ethics & Integrity Code.
The club has also accused Green Eagles Women of making unauthorised approaches to two of its players, Mary Chilundu and Phylis Kangwa.
“Green Eagles Women FC has also engaged in unauthorised approaches to KBQFC players,” the statement said.
The club says Chilundu remains under a valid five-year contract, while Kangwa is on a two-year loan agreement and remains the property of Konkola Blades Queens.
“Any attempt to engage these players without FAZ approval is strictly prohibited under FAZ and FIFA regulations,” the club added.
Compensation sought
Konkola Blades Queens have now referred the matter to the FAZ Player Status & Transfer Regulations Committee.
Among the club’s requests is a determination on whether Phiri’s contract was terminated unilaterally without just cause and whether compensation should be paid.
The club is also seeking disciplinary action against Green Eagles Women.
It has asked FAZ for “guidance to ensure compliance with FAZ, CAF, and FIFA standards”.
Phiri’s departure follows a successful first season with Konkola Blades Queens, during which she guided the club to seventh place in its debut campaign in the Women’s Super League.
Her appointment at Green Eagles would see her replace Mphande, who left the ZNS-backed club after his contract was terminated last month.
Konkola Blades Queens have placed first assistant coach Chipulu Chileya in charge on an interim basis following Phiri’s departure.
The club says the move is intended to maintain stability within the technical department while the dispute is considered by FAZ.
“Konkola Blades Queens FC remains focused on maintaining stability within the technical department and ensuring uninterrupted preparations,” the club said.
The club has said it will not make further substantive comments while the matter is before FAZ.
“The Club will refrain from further substantive comment while the matter is under FAZ consideration and will communicate developments when appropriate,” it said.
