The ZPL Women’s Super League Transitional Season got off to an entertaining start as the opening week produced 18 goals across five matches, with Konkola Blades Queens making the biggest statement in the Northern Zone.
Konkola Blades Queens opened their campaign with a commanding 5–1 victory over Amazing Grace, although they had to come from behind after conceding early.
Blessings Ngonga put Konkola ahead in the third minute, but Amazing Grace responded through Ruth Muwowo, who scored in the 21st minute to restore parity.
Konkola regained control after the break, with Nowela Mwanza putting them back in front in the 71st minute before adding another three minutes later.
Ngonga then completed her brace in the 78th minute, while Mwanza completed her hat-trick in the 90th minute as Konkola ran out emphatic winners.
Trident Queens also began their campaign with a victory, edging Nchanga Rangers Queens 2–1.
Elizabeth Chishimba put Trident ahead in the 21st minute, but Nchanga Rangers responded four minutes after half-time through Christine Kabandama.
Ruth Chinyama restored Trident’s lead in the 55th minute to secure all three points.
Indeni Roses also made a winning start, defeating Kamfinsa Blue Eagles 2–0. Gift Mulenga was the difference, scoring in first-half stoppage time before completing her brace in the 78th minute.
In the Southern Zone, ZANACO Ladies opened their campaign with a narrow 1–0 victory over Red Arrows, with Tisilile Lungu scoring the decisive goal in the sixth minute.
Green Eagles completed the Southern Zone’s opening-week fixtures with a 2–1 comeback win over Amezam Tamanga.
Hope Lungu gave Amezam the lead in the 20th minute, but Rachel Moono levelled in first-half stoppage time before Cindy Banda completed the turnaround with the winning goal in the 78th minute.
The opening week has provided an early glimpse of the competition to come, with goals, comebacks and standout individual performances setting the tone for the ZPL Women’s Super League Transitional Season.
With the campaign now underway, attention turns to the next round as teams look to build on their opening results.
