Mweene wins Absa Premiership title with Sundowns

Chipolopolo goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has won the Absa premiership title with South African PSL side Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns secured the title with two games to play in the season after they beat University of Pretoria 3 – 0 via an Anthony Laffor hattrick.

Mweene did not make the bench in the game.

Mweene made only four appearances for the champions marking his waste record of appearances in the PSL since moving to South Africa.

The 31 year old goal minder is not expected to continue at Sundowns in the next season.

Mukuka Mulenga is also on the books of Sundowns but is out on loan at Mpumalanga Black Aces.

This was Sundowns’ seventh since the PSL was formed in 1996/97. Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are next closest with four titles apiece.

The Brazilians will officially be crowned this season’s Absa Premiership champions on May 21 when they host Platinum Stars at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

  1. Move out Mweene, you still have another decade of goalkeeping since goalkeepers are like wine, maturing with age.
To me and other well wishers you are still Chipolopolo number 1, and the best this side of the Equator.
    God Bless you abundantly.

  2. Things have been bad for you this season but don’t make rushed not well thought out decisions. Speak to the technical bench and hear out what their plans for you next season are. I understand you long put in a request to move at the end of this season. wish you luck and should it be true you have requested to move and they do grant you your wish, look beyond the PSL for options. Even places like China will pay you big money for the last five or six years of your career. Its pretty obvious the chances of any other PSL club matching your current salary are slim especially that you have hardly played this season.

  3. winning the league with fill league games, mweene should should find another club before it’s too late, if luandimina is wise he should not start mweene for equatorial Guinean game because he is not even on bench he has been watching these last games in stands.

  4. Iwe wat ar u tokng abt?the problm u hv u lyk concludng ba zambia no matter hw a person cn du u dnt appreciat, mweene z gud so u wnt george to gv mweene a bench?haaa lok at u.mweene z gud jst tht thez fulsh coachz dznt wnt to spire hm bt mweene jst pul up yo stocknz dnt wry we lov u

  5. kikikikiki… !!!Equatorial Guinea?? it’s Guinea Bissau. But mweene should not go to any South African club,it will be wise for him to go elsewhere.

  6. Quite impressive what Motsepe has achieved since taking over from those Ellerines directors who previously sponsored the club. It was the days of Mudau, Sizwe, Sam Kambule(my favorite, with legs like Zyambo’s…_for those old enough to remember), Chirwali and etc…with a woman at the helm, Natasha Tsichlas which was unusual. Funny, for all their success they still cant match Chiefs and Pirates in terms of popularity outside Pretoria. I don’t know what Motsepe should do to turn that around…Maybe talk to those who have done it before.

  7. Sometimes the way you put titles to your articles, it really sounded like Mweene has got accolades, trophies and stuff yet here is a player who play only in 4 games the entire season! Thats a shame, actually he shouldnt even be celebrating with Sundowns, all he can do is ship out and join other teams. A goal keeper who has only 4 games in a season is a “B” or “C” grade material and the team management just wanted to keep him for nothing.

  8. Time for Mweene to move. He needs to be active since there is no competitor in the Zambian league to replace him.

  9. useless club mweene shud move out from this club thats why they were booted out by AS VITA in caf champions ligue & i wish MEDEAMA of GHANA to knock them in caf confederation cup play off.

  10. Do you really think mweene should play ahead of Brian onyango?dream on..the uUgandan has been great this year..for both country n team, one of the best keepers on the continent for 2015/2016
