Kaunda’s U17 overpower Simukonda’s U23

THE under-17 national team on Thursday defied football hierarchy beating their under-23 counterparts 1-0 in a training match at Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.

Skipper Patson Daka shook the net in the 10th minute after benefitting from Ngosa Sunzu’s cross beating goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata.

Daka could have doubled the lead in the 20th minute but his shot was blocked by defender Salulani Phiri.

Under-17 striker Pumulo Siwanga’s 36th minute shot hit the crossbar while midfielder Musonda Siame’s 50th minute cracker went wide.

Under-23 forward Moses Phiri could have equalised in the 70th minute but goalkeeper Danny Sikanyika was equal to the task.

The under-17 are preparing for next month’s Niger Africa Junior Championship while the under-23 are strategising for the 2015 All-Africa and 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers.

And under-17 coach Chris Kaunda declared his team ready for the Africa Junior Championship.

Kaunda said the junior Chipolopolo are travelling to Niger to lift the trophy.

Under-23 coach Fighton Simukonda called for hard work from his players.

  1. Let’s forget afcon 2015 and focus on the u-17 and u-20. If both these age groups can make it to the world cup we will have a solid team that can challenge for afcon 2017 and Russia 2018. The u-20 should aim to win that afcon

    • Dont forget Afcon 2015, thats how you learn is remember the mistakes. If you forget you make the same mistakes over and over.

    • Alex. That performance by DRC against Congo was world class. This team showed amazing class and overall determination. Can’t wait to see them in the semi finals.

  2. U-17 look like a team full of exciting prospects. I just hope they are nurtured correctly. Awesome. Speaking of prospects, what happened to Alfred Luputa?

    • Oh yeah Alex. If you watch him in EPL you have to try and rewind to see some the things he does with that ball. Did you see him skin the Congo defense like 3 times?

  5. The under 17 is the team to watch this year. Watch out for PATSON DAKA, one of the most deadly strikers that has ever come out from this country. This team can easily beat that PATHETIC team that represented us at AFCON this year!
