Katongo Congratulates Guinea

Christopher Katongo has congratulated Guinea for qualifying to the semi finals of the 2016 CHAN championship at the expense of Zambia.

Katongo stated that the Guinea has a chance of winning the tournament.

“Congratulations to Guinea for qualifying for the next round. Every team at the semi-finals has a chance of winning just as Guinea, the Chipolopolo skipper said.

Katongo echoed the thoughts of coach that his team could have avoided the lottery of the penalty shoot outs if they had taken their chances.

“We created some chances which means we could have finished the game earlier, but we lost on penalties,” he said.

Katongo took Zambia’s first penalty which was saved by Keita of Guinea.

  1. My idol. A proven professional. More years ahead, God willing. You showed your metal even at a loss. Zambia needs you. Indeed Africa needs your courage & fortitude. Bravo, Chris

  2. CK11 is a step back if considered for main chipolopolo! He will bring confusion in the team and there will b no improvement. In any case the myriad of missed scoring opportunities were squandered by Katongo in th QTR final!

  3. Try to imagine an attacking formation of Chris, Kalengo and Mbesuma? And these being supported by Kalaba and Chansa??? We shall go to Russia in 2018!!!

    • Katongo n Jacob Banda should be included in the squad, they’ve proved their worth. Point of debate now should be who will captain the national team now that Kalaba got the feeling of it.

  4. No! Kangwa should come in the fold. He will be playing 45 minutes and Chris 45 if at all Chris stays. And don’t congratulate Guinea boss Chris, they where playing like gorilla fighters in a civil war – no wonder we have many civil wars North of the equator. Always gesturing to the ref, crying foul at will, intimidating, kicking the ball away, i think they where also spitting all over the place. And then they start doing a stupid Rhumba dance beaming in smiles as if it was not them. If they where rebels, which thank god they are not, they can do their victory dance, but you know the ICC would deal with them in no time. Why isn’t there peace in the world????

  5. There is a team which Keegan Mumba assembled for a junior COSAFA. Kangwa showed everything. He has to come back and be captain one of these fine days. But i agree, let those who have the time for national team play. Some players need space to develop in Europe. That’s Kangwa and Sate. That’s where you see good management, no one is panicking over any player.

  6. We appreciate Katongo’s efforts. However, next time let us try to reserve tournaments like CHAN to expose young players as seen from other African Teams. I feel Katongo and Chansa were way too old for that tournament. It was also embarrassing to note that an average player in our team was 27 years old! Otherwise, congratulations on the spirited fight our men put up at the tournament

  7. I would like to agree with @Willard. This was a tournament to expose younger players to competitive soccer. They are the future. I’m grateful that Isaac and Chris helped the team but surely at the expense of young boys. The reason we won AFCON 2012 is that the bulk of the players in that team had been to U20 World Cup and had come through the youth. They had playing together. The other players also had been together at U23 level like Chris,Isaac,Mbesuma,Mweene…. etc.

I would include Chris in the team at Senior level just to play an advisory role.
