The Football Association of Zambia has described former national team coach Dario Bonneti as one of the worst coaches to have ever coached the Chipolopolo.
FAZ Secretary General George Kasengele said Bonneti did not even meet the minimum qualifications had been set for one to be national team coach.
“We did not know how Bonetti was brought. In fact since I am protected here let me say that he [Bonetti] is one of the worst to have ever coached the national team,” he said.
Kasengele said national team players did not have confidence in the Italian and on several occasions questioned his credentials and training methodologies.
He said FAZ had set UEFA professional licence as a qualification for the national team job but Bonetti had a UEFA A qualification at the time he coached the Chipolopolo from 2010 to 2011.
“We are the ones running football and we are the best people to employ coaches. But in the case of Bonetti we were just told that a coach has come,” Kasengele said.
Last week, Bonneti said FAZ needs new leaders if Zambian football is to develop. This was after he was asked to comment on the payment of his K3 million compensation claim for unfair dismisal by FAZ.
“Thanks to my lawyers and the Zambian government this issue is over. It’s a lesson to FAZ, I hope that FAZ can change its president and entire board as soon as possible for the development of football in Zambia,” he said.

Football is an internal matter, and Bonetti should not tell us who to fire and what not. He did his part and let him enjoy his money. We will learn from our mistakes.
Don’t fear to err, because to err is human.
We have the right to our own opinion but not a right to our own facts. The facts are that statistically Bonetti had good results. Way better than Herve Renard after AFCON 2012 and better than any coach before that for many tears.
Bonnet never played serious opponent and it was very shallow for people to over rate bonnet. When he was in chraged he only played weaker teams like Mozambique, Comoros Island L.e.
Kasengele just like you and ur fellows failures at FAZ are the worst administrators FAZ has ever had…
point
I agree with both sides here, Bonetti was a pathetically useless coach and Kalu admin also leaves a lot to be desired. Both Bonetti and Kasengele spoke the truth here.
Hahahaha this is really funny. They are just bitter they had to pay.
BONNETI WAS A VERY GOOD COACH BA KASERNGELE
What a load of manure. Bonnetti’s record with the Zambia national team speaks for itself. I will say I don’t blame FAZ for their decision in that the coach was imposed on them by GRZ, but lets not throw stones when you live in a glass house. Zambia wouldn’t be former African champions if not for Bonetti qualifying us for that tournament.
eish…. looks like the redundant old argument on the useless DVD Bonnetti flares up again. I reserve my comments. I will say though that it looks like he did manage to gather some groupies for the time he was here doing squat….lol
Abena Positive Thinking, just to agree with you. Someone described Zambia’s results after AFCON win as the erosion of Bonetti and the application of Renard. Go on the FAZ website and look at the results from AFCON 2012 to October 2013 when Renard left. HR only won 3 competitive matches, beating Ghana, Uganda and Lesotho. Never won away from home even against Tanzania and minnows Lesotho. Bonetti’s results were way better than HR save for God working a miracle at AFCON.
Shi Luka, thanks backing that up with real data. People are still upset about the fact that Bonetti said he was going to Europe to monitor players. I recall an interview with Isaac Chansa on supersport just before AFCON 2012 when Chansa said Zambia was going to win AFCON. They asked him what he thought about Bonetti and Chansa said the man was good to him. He said that even during his injury Bonetti called him every week to get an update.
I agree with Kasengele…that guy was useless.Never watched the local league, was absent from Zambia for most periods on the pretext of monitoring professionals,Zambia played some of the most unattractive football i have ever seen(Played all the center fowards in one line up).
Let sleeping dogs lay.
One pathetic gold digger accusing another pathetic gold digger,it is like one steal something and it is again stolen from him and he get’s pissed off at the thief ,the issue is they are both thieves period.
u cannot compare Janza to Bonnet
The conclusion of the matter is that both Kasengele and Bonetti are useless. Case closed.
I agree with that….Both are a totally useless pair.
There is no football being played around the country, Madala’s teams are very few. We all have to play a part – lets start playing more football. FAZ get some people to donate footballs and nets to schools. Double up please!!!
bonnet was a kabwalala kumo nowamuletele.
Bonneti and the German Burkand Ziese who was here in the 1990’s are the worst.
in this situation it would be easy to take the patriotic route and call Bonetti many unspeakables but I think in the interest of the development of Zambian football we should aim to be objective. It is absolutely not true that Bonetti is one of the worst coaches we have ever hired. If I had to pick a way of grading coaches, the worst would be the ones who failed to qualify the Chipolopolo to the Afcon.
Whatever else can be said about Bonetti, his tactics were sound. Many fans were unhappy with the way the team played during his tenure but if I have to put his type of football into perspective I would compare the way the Chipolopolo played at the time to the way Athletico Madrid are playing today.
Bonetti was only concerned with containment. The Chipolopolo defended as a team and attacked as a team. They got back in numbers and built slowly from the back. Being Italian I suppose it is understandable that his first concern was not to concede.
This type of football is not flashy to look at but as has been demonstrated by Athletico Madrid, even with a weaker set of players it can be effective if employed the right way.
The fault I found with Bonetti was not with his coaching but his attitude towards Zambians. He did not want to live in this country yet he wanted to work here. If he had no respect for our standard of living he should have sought work elsewhere. For his lack of respect for us as a nation I would have fired him myself. However good his coaching, a man with such an attitude should never be taken seriously. I understand it is only a job to him but he failed to show commitment to our cause by flying back to Italy after each assignment. He deserved the boot.
I have no problem with the coach watching local league matches. It may help him make a stronger team. Previous there was the technical committee whose job was to identify players that could fit into the national team setup. It was comprised of local coaches who saw these players on a regular basis. The national team coach would tell them what kind of player he wants and they would sit and make a list of the best in the league to fill that position and call two or three to try out. Could someone please tell us if this still exists. In my view this process saved a lot of time and money.
Bonneti maybe the worst but he is said the truth.
has said
leave to people who were close to bonet to comment. Epopelele.
Yes u ar right
FOR ALL THOSE SAYING BONNET WAS GOOD ?
Sure on what basis are you saying that? How many new players did he bring to the team which HR left ?
BONNETI WAS GOOD ? HOW ?
If he had a better record in Zambia, Tell me which other African nation offered him any Job after coaching Zambia.
H.r was th best becoz he made an efot & brot tht trphy hom 4 th 1st time.
