Kanyemba Wants Home Advantage To Count As Zambia Face Ethiopia

By FAZ Media

The Zambia Under-17 Women’s National Team will on Saturday host Ethiopia in the first leg of the final round of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The Copper Princesses are seeking a positive result ahead of next week’s return leg in Ethiopia as they bid to secure qualification to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the third consecutive time.

The Ethiopians arrived in Zambia Thursday afternoon ahead of the decisive encounter.

Zambia wrapped up its preparations with a training session at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium where FAZ Media caught up with head coach Carol Kanyemba who expressed confidence in her team’s readiness for the important fixture.

“As coaches we have done everything that’s needed. We are ready for the game; it’s now up to the girls to execute what we have been working on,” Kanyemba said.

The coach said Ethiopia would provide a different challenge despite the teams meeting for the first time, adding that her side would approach the contest with caution and respect.

“This is the first time that we are meeting Ethiopia. This is a different game altogether. Teams are different year in year out and for them to reach this far is testament to what they have,” she said.

Kanyemba said Zambia’s target was to make home advantage count by producing a strong performance before travelling for the second leg. She added that the technical bench had focused on both defending and attacking to give the team the best chance of securing a convincing result.

“We are going into this game with a new vision and new focus which is to beat this team, especially at home, and get maximum points with enough goals to shield our away fixture. We appreciate the support that the fans have always given us and we look forward to seeing them on matchday,” Kanyemba said.

Kick-off at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium is set for 15h00 and as the Copper Princesses aim to take a decisive step towards qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
