Kalusha: Kawri will be Lwandamina’s assistant coach

Football Association of Zambia, FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya has said George Lwandamina will remain as the Chipolopolo Boys head coach while the new coach Irfan Kawri will be his assistant.

“Irfan [Kawri] as assistant to coach [George] Lwandamina,” The Zambian legend wrote on his twitter page.

Zambianfootball.co.zm understands that Kawri will assist Lwandamina for the duration of the CHAN tournament in Rwanda and thereafter a decision will be made whether to hand him a long term contract or not.

“He will be assisting George [Lwandamina] and Lwandamina will be in-charge and head coach.

A good CHAN outing might see him land the top Chipolopolo job and be in charge of the 2012 African Cup of Nations for the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers which resume in March and June this year respectively.

He was part of the Patrick Phiri’s Under-20 set up in 2000.

The 34 year old has a Bachelor of Science in Sports and has been working on his coaching badges. He has completed UEFA B coaching licence.

In addition he has a UEFA A licence preparatory course [hasn’t yet completed UEFA A] as well as a former member of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s backroom staff at Burton Albion, a league one English side before the Dutch man and former Chelsea striker took over at Championship side QPR early this month.

He also combined roles of youth team coach and opposition scout analyst.

  1. How on earth can you assess someone who is an assistant. Assistants only help to execute the plans and tactics of the coach or stand in as coach in the absence of the head. Unless you say if CHAN outing will be successful, then he has to continue as assistant coach because, as long as George is the head Coach we don’t expect much change in tactics. This is the same reason why all the previous team builders eg from Mexico or wherever have not helped because usually the head coach is in control.

  2. This doesn’t make sense. An assistant is supposed to be an understudy probably with the view of learning more from the Head Coach. Somehow we have no Coach to take responsibility shud the team fail to impress. Such arrangements have been done before by FAZ when Kalu himself was a Coach and recently when Janza took the team to AFCON. In both cases, Zambia failed lamentably.

  3. What kind of ridiculous arrangement is this. You’ll only see this in zambia.

A 34 year old scout to play assistant coach for chan tournament with an option to take over the coach if the team perform well at the next CHAN.
This is bad for the zambian team. Lwandamina will never give his best to the team. The assistant will be rewarded with a chief coach job if the team should go on to perform well.

  4. It is good that we have Lwandamina who has tested the waters at the top. The good thing is that he is Zambian let him be given a chance to assist Nkunku.

  5. What is Kalu smoking in Mzanzi kanshi? Come back home maybe the local one in Wusakile will make him think better.Leave CHICKEN GORGE ALONE OR FIND A BETTER COACH TO TAKE OVER THE NATIONAL TEAM.NOT THIS SILLY ARRANGEMENT.

  6. I don’t see anything wrong with the that move. The guy has been part of the technical team in Zambia before, besides with the dual citizen now we may have a chance to get the Charlie boys because of his influence. Besides we don’t have money to pay a full time coach as at now lets rally behide the guys. We are not suppose to insult Kalu every time. As for me I see a strong Zed team with the back in the team of the two veterans. Watch this space insults or not it is a good move. The guy will bring experience and knowledge to our lovely game.

  7. did i just see a comment that he is experience.what a wooow.can’t Zambia emulate the likes of Ghana,Congo,Tunisia etc in hiring coaches.mark my words,Zambia is going no where with these mediocare coaches in the next decade.I knw some people hate to hear the truth but it must be told.not forespeaking and malevolent but truth they say is like a mirror,it reflects what it sees.

  8. Let us give him chance and support him,he is our brother.Who knows may be he has voluntarily accepted to assist Zambia because of his roots especially that the country has no money for an expert coach as indicated before , despite that he is educated and has a bit of experience.
When Renard come he was criticized as being the physical trainer but the Physical trainer lifted the Africa cup for first in the history Zambian football and African at large. When Sunzu was converted to play as a diffender,he was criticized by most soccer funs including Ponga liwewe. Now where is Sunzu? Where is Renard? Please let us support our brother.Bro, welcome to Levy Mwanawasa.

  9. not sure whether this is a good move or not. anyway that is how foreign coaches come in our land he might end up like renard, giving us a trophy. more support for george chicken.

  10. Zambians love complaining. This guy Irfan Kawri was invited to train with te Zambiua Under 20s. He wanted to play for Zambia but unfortunately he didnt make the cut. Many will remember him during the perios when FAZ sought a number of British based players to play for Zambia. This included Jeff Whitley who played for Manchester City and went onto play for Northern Ireland.

The guy shows that he has passion for the country though he is British.

  11. this new coach is taking us nowere. these flops come here as kalus eperiments. we need a coach with proven pedigree not kalus stooge

  12. Am told Fabregus was nutmegged by ka Charly Musonda during training and the guy got angry over that. Football is an amazing game indeed.

  13. Out of topic- Pongo Liwewe is criticizing the calling of Chris and isaac to the National team,i am surprised he hasn’t mentioned Mbesuma and Kalengo.
To me, Pongo is a wrong guy to comment on football matters in this country because he fails in most cases. To start with, he spent almost a decade at Copperbelt University studying Business Administration instead of 4 years.Secondly,in 2007,he was asked if there were any chances of Zambia beating south Africa for 2008 Afcon qualifier. He said Zambia can’t beat South Africa under Per era but what happened we white washed them with the presence of Ben Macathy.Lastly, but not the least because the list endless. He criticized the the positioning of Sunzu to a diffender from the midfielder. To him every thing is wrong.Mind you i haven’t talked about Power Dynamos issue.

  14. I would rather see George winning games at Zesco n prove himself by doing better in the CAF champions league. from there he’s expected to manage a foreign team in future. its an obvious case that we as ZEDIANs would prefer a foreign coach to a local one. its not a bad idea at all owing to the issue of team selection which always is blamed on FAZ ( kalu). the Zeds like the no nonsense approach of foreign coaches on issues of selection n team management. happy Xmas

  15. We have heard that GRZ & FAZ hve no money to pay a so – called credible coach we gave always wanted, and we saw recently how disastrous our under 23 team performed in Senegal and Lwandamina was like a Technical director to Fighton AND still we don’t see sense in what FAZ is doing in bringing in someone who would like to assist. Please people, be reasonable in your criticism, let those who have a heart for the country assist in any way possible. Those who feel this is not good enough, donate money and hire credible coaches like Mourinhio or Periera or Dunga or even Louis Van Gal , we the poor fans will be have everytime Chipolopolo wins.

  16. No One Z Happy Even Me With The Dids Of Great Kalu.We Want 2 Qualify 2 World Cup That Z All We Are Playin 4 And Bravo 2 My Elder Brother Isaac Chansa(abene Ba Mid) am Vry Happy Show Them Chansa That U Cn Play Tawakapwe Futi Tawapwapo Kkkkkkk One Chansa Aba Bola
