Kalampa humbled in North Africa

2018 CAF Confederations Cup 1st round 1st leg: CR Belouizdad 3 – 0 Nkana

Zambia’s representatives in the 2018 CAF Confederations Cup Nkana FC were on Tuesday evening wired 3 – 0 by Algerian side Belouizdad in a first round first encounter played in Algeria.

Beston Chambeshi did not set his team out to defend going by the starting XI he named and the Kitwe based side were on track in the first half holding the Algerians to a 0 – 0 draw in a fast paced encounter.

Nkana’s downfall was mainly their own undoing as they were poor in defense in the second half allowing three goals.

Seconds after the restart, Belouizdad launched a long ball from their own half which saw goalkeeper Kelvin Mapulanga rush off his line but he was beaten to the ball by the striker who looped the ball into the net from the edge of the box with 23 seconds played in the second half.

Nkana continued to hold a high line in defense and they were punished by the pace of the host attackers when a through ball saw John Mwangeni out paced for the striker to slot home between Mapulanga’s legs in the 59th minute for their second.

It was an uphill battle for Nkana at this moment and they were dealt the final blow in the 70th minute when Gift Zulu failed to pick his man on the right who finished off a good cross from the left for their third.

The result leaves Nkana on the back-foot with the second leg slated for Kitwe on 17th March.

  1. They are done and dusted unless they come and use the underhand methods to overturn the tables at home! thats what the arabs do when you are stronger than them. Nkana should apply the same method here.

  2. This is bad for the country long term, we are rivals locally but i would have loved to see Nkana progress slightly further in the competition. The consquences of Nkana & Buffaloes’ performance may take us back to 2 continental representatives only which is counter progressive looking at the level we have attained now. The more teams perform better the higher the chances of even other teams participating in these lucrative competitions includung my beloved Power Dynamos so its really sad for zambian football

  3. Disappointing result. The N Africans can afford to lose 2-0 and will continue their tried and tested strategies of tactical fouling, time wasting etc.etc.etc.
Its high time Video assistance for referees was implemented.. maybe this will allow skillful teams to get results. European football is by and large dull and defensive and yet they win all competitions. now every decision can be reviewed and logically the more skilful, speedy players should be rewarded for their enterprise and wizardry.
    Just my humble opinion.

  4. Football from the seventies kick and run that is the kind Nkana pays. When you use long balls you have 50% chance of winning the ball. When you build from the back and work upwards, you hold the ball and chances are created, you have more than 505 OF retaining the ball. Am very disappointed with this Nkana team.

  5. Disappointed with Nkana always lose 2 Arabs history repeat itself zanaco and zesco are better than those silly teams (buffaloes and Nkana)
