Kalaba, Sinkala play as Mazembe draw against AS Vita

Nathan Sinkala and Rainford Kalaba were in action for TP Mazembe on Wednesday afternoon as their club played to a goalless draw against Vita Club in a top of the table clash.

Mazembe have struggled for form and this was their third consecutive draw in all competitions having drawn 1 – 1 against Sanga Balende over the weekend which followed a 1 – 1 draw at home against Wydad Casablanca which saw them drop out of the CAF Champions league.

Sinkala and Kalaba were named in the starting line-up while Kabaso Chongo and Given Singuluma watched from the bench. There was no place on the bench for Jonas Sakuwaha who played over the weekend.

Kalaba was substituted in the 73rd minute while Sinkala played the entire game.

Mazembe still lead the log with 11 points ahead of AS Vita on goal difference.

AS Vita are Congo’s only representatives in the CAF champions league after the elimination of TP Mazembe.

Unfortunately the game was characterized by scenes of violence with police firing tear gas in the stands due to violence. The match was temporarily stopped for 8 minutes.

Unfortunately for Mazembe, the team had to stay on the pitch of the game for two hours before they were escorted by the police owing to crowd challenges.

The Mazembe bus was attacked in the car park with its windows completely shattered with reports of some players being injured.

  2. I believe Government should ask for an official statement on those incidents. Like all Zambian expats anywhere in the world Sinkala and Kalaba are entitled to expect Gov to show some interest in their welfare.

  3. Looks like complacency has reared its head at TP Mazemebe. That can happen when you are constantly winning with no real worthwhile challenger.

    • Good day! Big steve 4rm SA_ I do think Vita is a top African team with a proud record and an excellent coach(he recently won CHAN with a good number of Vita players); TP is second on the log to another top class team…Vita is 3rd. I think it’s no longer easy anywhere in the world of soccer for clubs to be unbeatable regardless of their potential …Barcelona and Bayern are very competitive and both in tough leagues with world-class coaches but Altletico recently made them look ordinary with very few super stars .

  4. DRC isn’t a safe place for any foreign national, but when they come here they want to be treated with kids gloves…
