Kalaba set to start against Mozambique

Zambia coach Sven Vandenbroeck might make two changes for Sunday’s CAF 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique, the ZamFoot Crew understands.

According to the ZamFoot Crew insiders, there has been a strong hint, former Chipolopolo Boys captain Rainford Kalaba might start in Maputo.

“The coach has been impressed with Ba Mupa [Rainford Kalaba]. He was surprised with how mobile he [Kalaba] was when he came on in Bissau,” the source said.

As Zambia chased the game last month on match day 4 against Guinea Bissau, Vandenbroeck gave the veteran midfielder a run out and Kalaba’s positivity brought urgency to the team.

That didn’t go unnoticed and Vandenbroeck now wants to start with the midfield maestro.

Last month, the decorated midfielder reported to international duty with a groin injury and that prevented him from starting both games against Guinea Bissau.

With the injury sorted, Kalaba is set to either replace Lubambo Musonda or Clatous Chama in the starting line-up.

Kalaba started in the hole against Namibia in Vandenbroeck’s first match in charge but the AFCON winner didn’t impress.

Vandenbroeck named unchanged line up in both the home and away tie against Guinea Bissau.

The ZamFoot Crew understands that Zesco United’s Simon Silwimba might reclaim his position and start ahead of clubmate Solomon Sakala.

With Group K leaders Namibia and Guinea Bissau playing out to a stalemate in Windhoek, Zambia can close the gap and move within a point with a win in Maputo.

The Mozambique against Zambia will be live on Supersport with kick off at 15h30.
