Mafweta could be heading to Czech

Zambia defender Golden Mafweta could be heading to Czech Republic to sign with an unnamed club, the ZamFoot Crew understands

The 20 year old defender is currently in Lusaka sorting out his paper work.

He is set to leave for Eastern Europe once all his paper work is done.

The centre back started his playing career at Lusaks’s Chilenje township based Happy Hearts before he was sold to Zanaco in 2019.

The young centre back was loaned to Buildcon last season.

At Buildcon, he blossomed alongside the likes of Brian mwila, Patrick ‘Dudey’ Phiri and Emmanuel Mwinde, and earned himself a call up to the national team.

In 2019, he helped Zambia Under-20 win the Cosafa Cup on home soil under the tutelage of Osward Mutapa.

With his impressive showing both in central defence and midfield for Buildcon, then Chipolopolo Boys coach Micho drafted him in the national team and went on to win 5 caps.

Mafweta (15) rose to stardom at Buildcon

Mafweta started Zambia’s opening match at the Cameroon 2020 CHAN tournament.

Should the deal be sealed, he will join former Power Dynamos midfielder Benson ‘Americano’ Sakala and Ngosa Sunzu in Czech Republic.

Mafweta and Ngosa also played together at Buildcon.

Since Stopilla Sunzu and Emmanuel Mbola, Zambia is yet to have a top tier defender in Europe.

Currently Zambia is spoiled with attacking players like Klings Kangwa, Emmanuel Banda, Edward Chilufya, Fashion Sakala, Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu but lack defenders.

The jury is out there if Mafweta, who will be turning 21 on January 15, can compete against Dominic Chanda, Tandi Mwape and Solomon Sakala.
