Janza set to name final AFCON Squad

Chipolopolo Boys coach Honour Janza is set to name his final 23 African Cup of Nations Squad ahead Wednesday’s CAF deadline.

The Zambian trainer has 27 players at his disposal and he has to drop 4 players from his squad.

The Zambianfootball.co.zm understands that one of the strikers will be dropped. Most likely 17 year old Patrick Ngoma will be the one not to make the cut though Israel based striker Evans Kangwa’s position in the team is not safe.

Zesco United’s Jackson Mwanza has a slim chance of making the squad.

While most fans would want James Chamanga told be dropped that is unlikely to happen because he is the only with the height who can offer something different if the team decides to play direct/route one football.

From midfield, there could be no casualty as the team is somehow thin in terms of options so 18 year old Green Eagles midfielder Spencer Sautu is likely to make the trip.

At the back, Janza is likely to leave out even two defenders and things don’t look good for Zimbabwe based Aaron Katebe while Bronson Chama’s fitness issues might go against him.

From fans’ perspective Rodrick Kabwe, Donashamo Malama and Chris Munthali shouldn’t make the trip but fans won’t be granted their wish as the trio are Janza’s boys dating back from the 2009 Cosafa Under-20 which lifted regional tournament when he was in-charge of the Junior Chipolopolo.

With Kennedy Mweene’s groin issues, there’s no way Janza will decide to do a Kalusha when he took just two keepers [George Kolola and Mweene, and dropped Kalililo Kakonje] to the 2006 AFCON.

Therefore only one goalkeeper will be dropped and its between Joshua Titima and Toaster Nsabata though the former has a slight advantage.

Expected to be dropped

Janza’s choice

1.Patrick Ngoma (*Evans Kangwa, *Jackson Mwanza), 2.Aaron Katebe, 3.Bronson Chama, 4.Toaster Nsabata (*Joshua Titima)

Fans’ choice

1. James Chamanga, 2. Donashamo Malama 3. Chris Munthali (*Rodrick Kabwe) 4. Toaster Nsabata

  1. How can Rodrick kabwe be dropped surely it will mean no cover for Mbola, and that goes for Malama too.so don’t expect these two to be dropped.

  2. I for one has publicly declared that our team the Chipolopolo boys will Not go passed the AFCON Group Stage because of the rebuilding process currently going on, it seems we don’t have a formidable team even at this last moment when other teams are fine tuning there squads on one or two players there plan B and C in case of a circumstance during games at the tournament.

Our Chipolopolo team has no concrete defence apart from Stophila Sunzu, while our midfield still lacks a ball to ball midfield like Isaac Chansa plus the deep in form of our holding midfield Nathan Sinkala and it is not a secrete any more that our main striker Emmanuel Mayuka has lost the sight for goes. So if you analyse our team you can agree with me that Janza is playing a losing game.

Anyway they say a supporter never loose hope and been a devoted Zambian Soccer Fan i have no option but will cross my hands and wish for the best, you know Miracles happen

From the team I think we must employ a 4 2 3 1 system with Kondwani helping Nathan in stabilising the midfield, of late we have been using Singulimain the ball to ball midfield position but that has just lad to Nathan been exposed because Singulima is used going forward leaving the midfield for Nathan alone, therefore pushing Singulima on an advance position ’10 position’ and moving Kondwani in that position can stabilise the team from my own view. We can play as follows

    1 Kennedy Mweene

    2 Davis Nkausu
    3 Emmanuel Mbola
4 Bronson Chama or Aaron Katebe
    5 Stophila Sunzu

    6 Nathan Sinkala
    8 Kondwani Mtonga

    7 Chisamba Lungu
    10 Given Singulima
    11 Rainford Kalaba

    9 Emmanuel Mayuka

    Subs

KG. Danny Munyau or Joshua Titima

Defense. Aaron Katebe or Bronson Chama
    Rodrick Kabwe

    Midfield. Lubambo Musonda
    Mukuka Mulenga

    Strikers. Evans Kangwa
    Ronald Kampamba

      • A company of lions led by a sheep will be destroyed by a company of sheep led by a lion
Janza is a sheep leading the lions
You can’t have emotions attachment to players just because you love them even when they are bench warmers
Why can’t Janza or chances whatever the name is start these boys sate sate and kangwa?
And this guy should explain why didn’t he play sate sate in the bafana bafana game?

        • @Kafusha, but mwana naiwe you like off-sides. Do you want coach to drop Mayuka and take that akampombo Kangwa?
Evans Kangwa should be DROPPED. He was late and the boy is has negative attitude.
Sate-Sate is for sale, so take him and of-course the only English Premier player Mayuka.
          So to go is:
          #1 Evans
          2. Nsabata
          3. Bronson
          4. Ngoma.

Did that Janza try Katebe in position of Nathan? Nathan likula…. he is only disciplined.

  3. We expect a strong team to represent us at the AFCON. We don’t want to see a bunch of small boys. This is the AFCON for heavens sake. It’s no child’s play!

  4. Good analysis from ZamFoot. All we want is just a good change at the front, Iam really worried with the striking force.

  5. I have said this before and i will say it again. You can not win the AFCON without experienced players. We need men of steel in the team!

  6. PATHETIC Honor Janza should be brave enough and recall Roger Kola, Isaac Chansa and Christopher Katongo to the team. We need experience in the team. We don’t seem to have big players. We only have a bunch of small players who will be eaten alive at the AFCON.

    • we have a team! have some faith and support the team, most african teams are rebuilding, and thats what we also need and are doing. let the young stars get exposure so that AFCON 17 and world cup 2018 we have a strong team. enough of bene CK, Issac and team. we are better of loosing but learning from it. this we should have done actually @2013 AFCON

  7. Zamfoot spot on! We can’t afford to drop any goal keeper looking at Kennedy Mweene with a groin injury. Janza take three goal stoppers and sacrifice the following players; Patrick Ngoma, Jackson Mwanza,Aaron Katebe and Chris Munthali ,with Bronson Chama.

    • Katebe and Chama? Noooo!! Who will cover for the two central defenders when say one has a red card and the other is injured? Because these are possibilities in tournaments kaaaa? At least drop one of the two and not both. Seeing that we have no cover at right back, Donashano should stay in the team to cover for Nkausu at right back. That leaves Katebe, Chama and Munthali. So one of the three should go. Knowing Janza, he cannot drop Munthali, and so it leaves Katebe or Chama to be dropped. We will need a cover for each position especially defense, very important. You can mess with other departments but not defense.

  8. I conquer wit ba kez on the formation even his line up bt we need goal scorers tht mayuka chap shud jst b an impact player(sub),let’s bring jacob. The fan’s list is agreeable.

  9. My biggest concern with Zambia is the midfield. Without a player like Chansa who can hassle opposition midfielders, Sinkala will be unable to shine and cover. Sinkala does well on capitalizing on the oppositions mistakes, and getting interceptions, but it is Chansa and his work rate that creates those opportunities. Right now our midfield is pretty much like Arsenals…it’s a big highway with only the defenders to cover. My expectations for this AFCON are not seeing us through the first round, but u never know. Also, our preparations have been abismal. Cape Verde has 3 friendlies lined up, meanwhile we only have 2. In 2012, Zambia played 4 friendlies before AFCON, and 2 extra games in India against a Goa select side. This team is unprepared, which is sad because there is no reason why the team wouldn’t have been camped for 2 months like the 2012 squad. Janza has been shortchanged by FAZ, if he was Muzungu they would have made an effort or maybe he should have made the effort.

    • @Positive Thinking or any other blogger who may have info on Isaac.
I am quite behind on what has been happening to Isaac Chansa. Where is he playing and is he a regular at his club? How is his form like lately? Thanks.

  10. 7 Players should be dropped and recalle 3 experienced ones.
    Drop; 1 Chamanga 2 Donashano, 3 Muntali, 4 Rodrick, 5 Jacson M, 6 Patrick Ngoma, 7 Toaster Nsabata.
Recall; 1 Jacob Mulenga, 2 Isaac Chansa and 3 Joseph Musonda.

  11. Nasheni ko insele ba justice kafusha, shileni imbutuma, imwe tasha milinga. For a minute I thought I was reading John’s contribution, kanshi ni mwe. it doesnt mean the content of your arguement is wrong, just a little too emotionally charged.
anyway,my belief is that; when expectations are low, miracles have a silly habit of happening. had we won that game, we would have gone to afcon with inflated egos, now we know that we still need some tweeking.

    • ” had we won that game, we would have gone to afcon with inflated egos, now we know that we still need some tweeking”.
I like your last statement. Maybe that loss to Bafana Bafana will make the Boys to work harder.

    • Cool, but Mayuka surely should “pull up his socks”. He is the only seasoned and dependable strikers we have. He is been there and he’s done it before (afcon 2012). We can’t rely on Chamanga, we all know why. The youngsters like Kangwa and Sate Sate are up-coming can’t expect too much from them. In short, Mayuka is our dependable now, and so he needs to think about this. Thanks.

  12. Imwe ba zamfoot, there is no way u can put the young Patrick Ngoma on the Choping Board
This boy (Ngoma) is a genious who shud have afeel of the AFCON for wonders he and Lubambo Musonda have done for the nation at junior level and for me if you drop Ngoma it means Janza does not know what he is doing coz you cannot talk about youth team without this boy the Golden boot winner in Zimbabwe and take the likes of Chamanga

    Drop the Following;
    Titima
    Sautu or Musakanya
    Chamanga/Jackson Mwanza
    Bronson Chama

  13. i say drop munthali and keep evans. its a pity that janza will likely keep munthali and malama jst becoz he was their coach at under 20 level. this behevoiur by zambian coaches must stop. favouritism should be done away with.

  14. Imwe ba zamfoot, there is no way u can put the young Patrick Ngoma on the Choping Board

    My final 23 if janza does not include Mbesuma and Chris Katongo is;

GKs: Mweene, Nsabata, Munyao. Defenders; Mbola, Nkausu, Rodrick, Munthali, Katebe, Sunzu and Mtonga. Midfielders; Donashano Malama, Nathan Sinkala, Chisamba Lungu, Mukuka mulenga, Lubambo Musonda, Rainford kalaba and Given Singuluma (Musakanya subject to omission of Katongo). Striker; PATRICK NGOMA, Emmanuel Mayuka, Evans Kangwa, Ronald Kampamba and (Jackson Mwanza again subject to ommision of Mbesuma)

  15. Just have a closer look at Mukuka Mulenga as he seems to be still carrying an unending injury and since he got injured, he has never actually removed his foot off the brake. This could be symptomatic of a recurring injury which may not have fully healed. It is not his fault that he got injured but if he has not recovered fully, let him stay behind. Toaster Nsabata is usually very good at retrieving the ball from the net after having let in the ball. Unless we need him to play this role, let him also join Mukuka Mulenga. The name Muntali seems to be featuring on almost everyone’s list of players to be dropped and is actually on top my drop list. He is, therefore, a hot candidate for those vying to be dropped and let his will be done-drop him. I have never been a fun of Roderick Kabwe and actually never paid any attention as to what could have earned him so many call-ups. He is an example of a player who has been called a record 5-10 times by various coaches but falling short of what is expected of him. He has been blowing hot and cold throughout his career and has never been consistent throughout his playing career. If Jose Kongolo is going to be roped in, let him also be excused.
The technical bench may also wish to revisit the tendency of featuring a number of players in different position in literally every game. By now, the bench should have come up with who can play best in which position and and in what role.
On a pleasing note, Janza’s flexibility and ability to listen and possibly taking remedial action may be what is required to go beyond the preliminary round. It is not too late. Since the coach has shown that he is ready to make changes where necessary, can we please refrain from calling him all sorts of names but continue giving him ideas. If, for instance, I called him names because he had left out Jacob, then the moment Jacob is roped in, I should stop calling him names unless in the first place, I wanted him to do more than recalling Jacob. Let us be fair with him by also looking at the arsenal that he has got. As at now, he could still carry the full arsenal and still under deliver, meaning that the problem may actually be much deeper than what we may think.

  16. A company of lions led by a sheep will be destroyed by a company of sheep led by a lion
Janza is a sheep leading the lions

And this guy should explain why didn’t he play sate sate in the bafana bafana game?

  17. What z so special about Mayuka? If he z not performing drop him. We need a backup 4 sunzu bcoz he’s become more prone to injuries. We lost in Cape Verd bcoz Sunzu wz injured bt wz made to play entire match. I ve info on katebe n chama’s fitness so I wud go 4 the devils I know (munthali n malama) at our own peril coz time z running out. My inclusion wud b CK, jacob n ba Muzo.

  18. Some people are defending Kalu that the reason Kola is not selected is that he has been given so many chances to prove himself but he has disappointed, hence the no call. How about this Katebe boy,Muthali,Malama as in for Chamanga it is just age has caught up with him..Ati the coach will not drop them because he was with them at U20 at the expense of winning the battle, what a commander we have entrusted to led our soldiers, atase ifyabupu bafye.

  19. Some people worship Kalu, they can’t see anything wrong with the guy. Janza is also in the shoes of Kalu, this means Zambian football in the hands of good for nothing men who just want to use football as a way of feeding their families and not to develop it

  20. that is why i prefer foreign coaches to local coaches..bunch of greedy bustards who are tactically insufficient.they think coaching is just making selections and providing formations like 442.

  21. I will keep insisting that Joseph Musonda needs to be brought back into the team. Modern football no longer uses fullbacks, but wingbacks. Pablo Zabaleta, Patrice Evra and Marcelo are wingbacks because they can attack as well as defend. As a wingback you need great stamina, endurance, speed and crossing ability. Joseph Musonda has those qualities unlike Malama and Kabwe. In addition, he can also play as centre half and cand provide cover for Sunzu. We need a focal point upfront and Jacob can provide that. He has physical presence, can hustle defenders, provides an aerial threat and has a killer instinct. If Janza wants to insist on playing Chamanga then let him pair him with Jacob because the two seem to have a good understanding as we saw at Afcon 2010 in Angola.
