Jacob Mulenga talks about his move to China

STRIKER Jacob Mulenga says he joined newly promoted Chinese super league side Shijiazhuang Yongchang because the club presented an exciting challenge.

Jacob, who recently left Turkey’s Lig 1 side Adana Demirspor six months after joining them from Netherland’s Utrecht, said he wanted to experience new things and a new culture that could help him grow as a footballer.

“It is a club full of ambition and the opportunity they presented for a new challenge was exciting. I have played in Zambia, France, Holland, Turkey and now China. I thank God for this opportunity to experience new things and learn another culture that can better help me grow as a footballer and as a man, I will pray and work hard,”

Mulenga said James Chamanga was an example of a player in China who was ‘respected.’

“My good friend James (Chamanga) is a very good example in China and highly respected, he has helped me a lot,” Mulenga said.

Mulenga said he was hoping to pass on the knowledge of his vast experience in the game to upcoming footballers.

“For what good is experience if you do not share it with the inexperienced. I hope that one day, I shall pass on the knowledge to young Zambians dreaming of being footballers. For now, the journey has still got a lot of work,” said Mulenga.

Mulenga, who scored eight goals in 15 appearances at the Turkish club, becomes a second player to join the Chinese league this year after Stoppila Sunzu left France Sochaux to join Super League side Shanghai Shenshua.

The two join James Chamanga who plays for Liaoning Whowin.

Christopher Katongo and Isaac Chansa also played in China.
