Zambia Super League defending champions, ZESCO United Football Club captain Jacob Banda is confident the team will work hard enough to challenge for the title.
Speaking to ZESCO United Media, Banda said the team has had time to rest and recover from injuries that plagued the Ndola based outfit prior to the league going on a break.
Banda said what is important is for the players to keep themselves in shape during this lockdown and stressed that Zega Mambo cannot afford to relax because when the league resumes; all the teams will be fighting to get good results.
“I think we have had time to rest and recover from injuries. What is important is that we keep ourselves in shape during this lockdown. We can’t afford to relax because when the league resumes, all the teams will be fighting to get good results,” Banda said.
Meanwhile, Kenyan international striker, Jesse Jackson Were says he aims to score as many goals as possible for the team when the league resumes.
“My mission will be to score as many goals as possible for the team so that we can retain the title. It is not the same not training with the lads but we are fighting to stay in shape. I can’t wait for the league to start again,” Were said.
ZESCO United fans will be hoping that when the league resumes, the team will be able to replicate the 10 match unbeaten run recorded at the beginning of the season.
Before the Super League came to a temporal close, Forest Rangers were leading the pack with 46 points from their 24 games, followed by Napsa Stars on 45 points from 25 matches with Green Eagles in third place on 44 points from 24 matches, 12 times champions Nkana is fourth with 43 points from 24 matches, and Zesco United on 42 from 24 matches are fifth.
